Goodbye From Macau!

Thanks to everyone who followed our coverage from Macau over the past few weeks. It's been a lot of fun and we've witnessed some fantastic poker, supporting the exciting growth of poker in this region. Our thanks to the crew at the APPT, PokerStars and the Grand Waldo Casino for their hospitality and for such a superbly run tournament.

PokerNews will be back again soon with upcoming tournaments in Europe, the United States and of course throughout Asia, with the next APPT event to be held in late September in Seoul, South Korea.

Nam Le Wins APPT High Rollers Event ($474,358)!

Congratulations to Nam Le who overcame a world class field and 61 of the highest rollers in town to capture the 2008 APPT High Rollers Event and $474,358 in prize money.

At the dinner break it looked like Nam was in trouble, however he was able to double up on multiple occasions as the short stack and never looked back.

Once things reached heads up, Nam was completely dominant and although Andrew Scott put in a valiant effort he just couldn't find any notes to help him overcome Nam's experience.

This win confirms Nam's place in the highest echelon of tournament poker players in the world today.

Andrew Scott Eliminated in 2nd Place ($269,230); Nam Le Wins APPT Macau High Rollers Event

And just like that, all of the chips were in the middle preflop. Andrew Scott with just 82,000 remaining chips, was at risk of elimination after being called by Nam Le. They opened their hands:

"Best hand I've seen," said Scott. "Rags, rags, rags."

Both players paired on a flop of , but Le's pair of kings was better than Scott's pair of jacks. The turn gave Scott some additional outs, but it wasn't to be. The river was the . Andrew Scott is out.

"Ah well," said Scott after the river came down. "Won't have another chance to get that close for a while."

Still No Joy for Scott

Nam Le has won almost every single pot of heads up play. He is relentlessly chipping Andrew Scott down, one big blind and ante at a time. The two players are playing very passively preflop, with hardly any raising, and then a single bet by Nam Le at some point after the flop is usually enough to win the hand. The result of this tournament appears to be a foregone conclusion unless Andrew Scott manages to turn it around soon.

The People Are Restless

The crowd is clearly bored by this heads up contest. In the last few minutes we've seen a pathetic attempt at a Mexican wave, a call of "Come On Nam!" by Eric Assadourian rivaled by a "Come On Andrew!" from David Steicke, all ended with a spontaneous round of applause (for no apparent reason) by most people in the room.

Clearly they want something exciting to cheer for ...unfortunately it doesn't look set to happen any time soon.

One For Scott

Andrew Scott limped in from the button and Nam Le checked his option.

The board was checked to the river on a board of . Le checked to Scott who moved all in out of nowhere. Le folded and Scott finally wins a pot.

This has been a very strangely-passive heads up contest to date. Scott needs to get his chips moving and find a double up here soon!

Scott Getting Critical

Another hand, another pot to Nam Le. Andrew Scott completed the small blind and Nam Le checked to a flop of . Le checked, and finally Scott came alive with a bet of 20,000. Le called. Both players quickly checked the turn and the river. Nam opened for a pair of deuces and a winner.

Scott has just 115,000 remaining.

Small Ball Not Working for Scott

Andrew Scott has been trying to play small ball with Nam Le, but it hasn't been working. He has had to release several hands due to pressure raises from Le, and those hands he hasn't had to release he's lost anyway by being outflopped. Scott is steadily chipping down, having lost the last five pots.

Le Tries The Limp-Raise

Nam Le limped in from the button and Andrew Scott announced a raise from the big blind. He added another 60,000 into the pot, but it wasn't enough to scare Le as he declared a reraise of an additional 180,000. Scott folded and Le collects another pot as he appears to be in control of this heads up contest.
