Day 1 Completed

Congratulations to John Joannou; 2010 Crown Aussie Millions Event No. 6 Champion (AUD $27,300)!

John Joannou, the 2010 Crown Aussie Millions Event #6 Champion! (AUD $27,300)
John Joannou, the 2010 Crown Aussie Millions Event #6 Champion! (AUD $27,300)
Congratulations to John Joannou, who overcame the field of 91 players to take home the title, the championship ring and of course, AUD $27,300 in prize money.

John Joannou managed to skillfully work his way to the top through a barrage of eliminations, which as a result saw only 15 players remaining at the dinner break.

The decision was then made by Crown staff to play the tournament out in one day - and play they did, with the event turning into a 15-hour marathon.

John Joannou has successfully proven his skills as an all-rounder and his win is thoroughly deserved - well done!

That just about does it here at the Crown Poker Room - assuming we can get enough sleep, we're off for a hack around the golf course tomorrow morning.

Never fear, we will be back in time to bring live reporting coverage of Event #7: $1,150 No Limit Hold'em with Rebuys, which starts at 12.30pm AEDST - be sure to join us then!

Note: Earlier we had reported John Joannou as Rabii Maatouk, we apologize for getting this wrong to both players.

Stud

John Joannou: ({9-Diamonds} {9-Hearts}) {4-Hearts} {4-?} {6-Diamonds} {7-Spades} ({9-Spades})
Paul Ramondetta: ({J-Diamonds} {3-Hearts}) {8-Clubs} {7-Hearts} {J-Spades} {5-?} ({10-?})

Joannou brought in, Ramondetta completed and Joannou set his opponent all-in. Joannou's two pair left Ramondetta in hot water until Ramondetta caught a Jack on fifth giving him a chance. However when Joannou flipped over the {9-Spades} on 7th, Ramondetta was drawing dead - giving us our champion!

Joannou's Quads Are Unsurprisingly Good

Omaha Hi-Low

Paul Ramondetta raised preflop and Joannou called.

Both players checked the {2-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {9-Clubs} flop before Joannou bet out {J-Clubs} turn which Ramondetta called. The latter though folded when Joannou bet again on the {J-Spades} river.

Joannou showed {J-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {3-Diamonds}. So just quads then.

Length Of Tournament Increases

Hold'em

Paul Ramondetta raised preflop and John Joannou made it 3 bets.

Ramondetta just called a bet on the {J-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} flop before the two capped the {K-Diamonds} turn with Ramondetta turning over {Q-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} leaving Maatouk's {A-Clubs} {K-Spades} drawing dead for the {4-Hearts} river.

Ramondetta doubles up...

And we're still here.

Seesaw...

Stud-8

After gaining some ground back, Paul Ramondetta lost a pot back during the Stud Eight Or Better phase.

Joannou: (X) (X) {10-Spades} {6-Spades} {3-Clubs} {8-Clubs} (X)
Ramondetta: (X) (X) {A-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {7-Hearts}

Joannou brought in, Ramondetta raised and Joannou reraised, Ramondetta called then called another bet on 4th street as well.

Both checked 5th and 6th street before Joannou bet 7th to which Ramondetta folded.

Joannou On The Brink?

Omaha Hi-Lo

Ramondetta raised preflop and Joannou called in the big blind.

{4-Clubs} {7-Hearts} {8-Hearts}

Joannou led out and Ramondetta called.

{J-Diamonds}

Joannou fired a second time and again Ramondetta called.

{6-Clubs}

Joannou fired once more and again Ramondetta called. Joannou flipped {9-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {4-Spades} for a nine high street and a 6-5 low. It was good enough to scoop the entire pot. Paul Ramondetta is really short now, having lost most of his stack.

Joannou Flushed With Success

Stud-8

Joannou: (X) (X) {10-Spades} {7-Spades} {8-Hearts} {2-Spades} (X)
Ramondetta: (X) (X) {4-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {3-Hearts} (X)

Ramondetta fired the entire way but on seventh he was raised by Joannou and called his opponent.

Joannou flipped {9-Clubs} {A-Spades} {8-Spades} for a backdoored flush, Ramondetta mucked what looked to be {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} (X) in the hole.

Joannou has a commading lead now.

Who Is The Real Stud?

Stud

John Joannou fired all the streets with his board of {5-Diamonds} {A-Spades} {9-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} with Ramondetta calling him down with a {K-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {5-Spades} board.

Joannou won it all though when he flipped over {9-Spades} {7-?} {3-?} for trip nines to win the pot.

A few hands later and Ramondetta won it back though, his {10-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} board mathced well by the {K-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} in the hole beating Joannou's {6-Hearts} {4-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {A-Spades} ({A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {5-Clubs}).

The battle continues...
