Event #47: $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em

Day 4 Completed

Congratulations to Shawn Busse, Event #47 Champion ($485,791)

It was only fitting that several wild, action-packed days of poker in Event #47 would be punctuated by an exciting -- and perhaps surprising -- final table.

From 3,128 entrants our final nine came today led by Adam White and Allan Bække, but after more than two hours of play the chip counts had reversed themselves. Down to the short stacks, White and Bække would be the first two to go, followed shortly thereafter by Jason Mann, Ilya Andreev, and Welong Jin.

During that stretch Owen Crowe and Shawn Busse emerged as overwhelming chip leaders, and following the eliminations of Chuan Shi and Pekka Ikonen, they were the two left to battle for the bracelet.

Crowe held a 2-to-1 advantage when heads-up play began, and he increased his edge even further. Then came a timely double-up to bring Busse back to nearly even. Soon after Busse used pocket aces to win most of Crowe's stack, finishing him off a hand later.

Congratulations to Shawn Busse, Event #47 champion! Thanks for following our coverage on PokerNews, and be sure to come back to follow these last few preliminary events before the Main Event gets underway next week.

Busse Cripples Crowe

After a couple more hands, Owen Crowe and Shawn Busse were nearly dead even when the following hand took place.

Busse began the hand with a raise to 200,000 from the button, and Crowe made the call. The flop came {8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{5-Spades}. Crowe led with a bet of 275,000. Busse responded with a raise to 725,000. Then Crowe reraised again for 1.54 million more. Busse said he was all in.

"I guess you got aces," said Crowe. "So I call."

Busse {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}
Crowe {J-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

The turn was the {K-Spades} and the river the {4-Diamonds}, and Busse's large crowd of supporters let out a huge roar. After some time spent counting down the stacks, it was determined that Crowe did have Busse covered by just a bit, so we aren't quite done yet.

Big Double for Busse

After a couple of dozen relatively quiet hands between our final two, the action has stepped up considerably here of late.

Shawn Busse opened with a raise to 200,000, then Owen Crowe announced he was all in. Busse called, tabling {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}. Crowe showed {A-Diamonds}{4-Spades}.

The board came {2-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{6-Spades}{2-Spades}, and Busse doubled back to about 4.55 million.

The pair are now relatively close in chips, with Crowe having a slight lead.

Busse Survives All In

Owen Crowe opened for 220,000 from the button, Shawn Busse reraised all in, and Crowe called.

Crowe showed {A-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, while Busse had him outkicked with {A-Spades}{9-Clubs}. The flop was {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, then the turn came {7-Spades}. Busse was still ahead, but the river {4-Diamonds} meant the pot was split.

Crowe Increases Edge

Shawn Busse opened with a raise to 200,000 from the small blind/button, and Owen Crowe quickly responded by pushing all in. Busse grimaced, then looked over at Crowe as he considered what to do.

Finally after a minute, Busse let the hand go. He's down to about 2.22 million now to Crowe's 7.1 million.

One for Busse

On the second hand back after the break, we saw the first flop of heads-up play. Shawn Busse opened the pot on the button with a 200,000-chip raise and Owen Crowe called.

The flop ran out {j-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} and Crowe check-called a 250,000-chip bet from Busse. The turn card was a {a-Hearts} and Crowe checked. Busse fired a 475,000-chip bet and Crowe eventually folded.

Busse is now up to 3,000,000 chips and Crowe slipped to 6,300,000.
