Day 2 Complete: Adam Geyer On Top of the Counts

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Adam Geyer
Adam Geyer

The 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure resumed on Monday with 645 players remaining from the starting field of 1,560 to battle it out on Day 2. Six levels were played today and when it was all said and done, 173 players are left in what was a fast and frantic day of poker. Just about everybody was surprised how quickly eliminations came today and the players are well into the money as a result. Ending the day at the top of the counts is Adam Geyer with 909,000. Following him are Ilan Rouah with 795,000 and Chris Oliver with 792,500.

Among those that failed to make it to the money today were Team PokerStars Pros Liv Boeree, Joe Cada, Nacho Barbero, John Duthie, and Dario Minieri. Joining them on the rail was 2010 PCA Champion Harrison Gimbel, unable to recover from the short stack he started the day with.

The hand that had everybody sweating today was the bubble hand. Action folded to Marco Johnson in the small blind and he moved all in for a total of 26,000 at the 2,500/5,000/500 level. William Reynolds was in the big blind and instantly called. Players and media swarmed the table as Johnson's elimination would guarantee a pay day for everybody. When the cards were turned over, it looked like that would be the case:

Johnson: {K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Reynolds: {A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}

The flop came {9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}, not bringing much help to Johnson. He had some hope when the {10-Clubs} hit the turn, giving him a flush draw. However, the river brought the {Q-Hearts} and Johnson was out in 233rd place.

Eliminations were fast and furious after that as 59 players busted after the money was reached to leave us with our returning field of 173 for Day 3. Some of the players that will return tomorrow are Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker (650,500), Dave Sands (617,000), Dwyte Pilgrim (489,000), and Faraz Jaka (447,000).

Play is scheduled to pick up at 12 p.m. EST tomorrow. Be sure to follow along right here as the PokerNews Live Reporting Team brings you all the action, eliminations, and drama from the 2011 PCA at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. Good night!

Flying Dutchman Loses His Wings

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Marcel Luske
Marcel Luske

From under the gun, Team PokerStars Pro Marcel Luske raised to 14,000. The player on the button called and the flop came down {K-Clubs}{J-Spades}{J-Clubs}. Luske checked and his opponent fired 16,000. Luske made the call.

The turn brought the {2-Spades} to put two spades and two clubs on board. Luske checked and his opponent fired 41,000. Luske check-raised all in for 92,000 and his opponent called.

Luske turned up two aces and had the best of it against his opponent's naked flush draw with the {A-Spades}{8-Spades}. The river completed the board with the {3-Spades} to spike Luske's opponent's flush and send the Flying Dutchman out the door.

Game, Set, Match

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Gustavo Kuerten
Gustavo Kuerten

Former tennis star Gustavo Kuerten has just been eliminated with a small cash to show for his efforts. Kuerten limped into the pot with {10-Hearts} {J-Hearts}, then three-bet shoved into a raiser with {A-} {J-}.

The flop brought the {J-Clubs} for both players along with one baby heart for Kuerten, and the {Q-Hearts} turn gave him another nine outs to the flush. It never materialized, though, and the blank {5-Clubs} river marked the end of his day after an impressive run.

Rapid Eliminations

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Since the bubble's burst the eliminations are piling up. The bubble burst at 232 players and we're already down to around 200. Who knows how many we'll have left come night's end . . . which is 37 minutes away.

Reynolds Out Too

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Will Reynolds
Will Reynolds

Well, the joy of bursting the bubble was short-lived for Will Reynolds. A player in early position open-shoved his short 58,000-chip stack, and Reynolds reshoved for about 140,000 total. Next door, Dwyte Pilgrim made the call to put both players at risk, and he was in the lead. The original raiser turned up {A-} {Q-}, Reynolds the {7-} {7-}, and Pilgrim {J-} {J-}.

The board ran out full of blanks, and Pilgrim's jacks held to notch the double elimination. Mark him down for about 470,000 now.

One Binger Out

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Nick Binger eliminated
Nick Binger eliminated

From the hijack seat, Nick Binger moved all in for 40,500. The player on the button reraised all in to isolate and everyone else folded.

Binger: {A-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Opponent: {A-Spades}{J-Hearts}

The board ran through {J-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} and Binger hit the rail. His brother Michael is still in the tournament.

Heimiller Doubles Through Pilgrim

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Action folded to Dwyte Pilgrim in the cutoff seat and he moved all in to put the shorter stacks behind him at risk, exercising the power of the big stack. Play moved to Dan Heimiller in the big blind and he thought about it for a bit before calling off his last 58,000 with the {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}. Pilgrim held the {7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} and was shocked Heimiller thought about it for that long with such a short stack.

"You deserve to lose," said Pilgrim as the flop ran out {K-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{6-Spades}. The turn brought the {Q-Clubs} and gave Heimiller an unbeatable straight before the river completed the board with the {9-Clubs}. Pilgrim dropped back to 293,000 after doubling Heimiller.
