Final Table Set; Mulligan Leading!

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Final Table Chip Leader, Jamie Mulligan
Final Table Chip Leader, Jamie Mulligan

After 11 full levels of play, the final table has been set for the PokerStars.net Australia New Zealand Poker Tour Auckland Main Event!

Seventy-Six players made their way to the SKYCITY Auckland Casino just after midday to battle down until just a final table of nine remained. With fifty players needing to fall until we reached the money, action was relatively fast as Souny Frederic was awarded the unwanted title of bubble boy when he was forced all in for one ante, and was out-flopped by Cole Swannack.

Michael Guzzardi (17th), Angie Fitzgerald (16th), Jie Gao (14th), Cole Swannack (12th) and Jason Lee (11th) all fought gallantly, but would end up on the rail as Andre Nunes-Carreira’s hopes of making the final table fell short by just one, when he bubbled the final table in 10th place.

Local resident Jamie Mulligan - is sitting atop the leaderboard after a great run of cards, patience and plenty of skill to amass a 987,000-chip stack. Snapping at his heels is Pravin Harji, who trails by a whopping 400,000 chips, while overnight chip leader Xiaodong Xia is one of the short stacks heading to the final table.

Throw in an Australian and several locals, including the one-and-only Graeme “Kiwi G” Putt, and picking the eventual winner is still anyones guess as they will all be fighting hard to capture the NZ$107,640 first prize and title of ANZPT Auckland Champion!

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be back in the SKYCITY Auckland Poker Room tomorrow from 12:30p.m NZST to provide detailed and comprehensive live coverage of all the final table action live from the PokerStars.net ANZPT Auckland Main Event!

Nunes-Carreira is the Final Table Bubble-Boy

In the last hand of the evening, Slav Sheynin opened for 24,000, before Andre Nunes-Carreira moved all in for around 300,000 in chips. Jamie Mulligan then called from the small blind, forcing Sheynin to fold.

Mulligan: {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}
Nunes-Carreira: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}

The board didn’t help Nunes-Carreira as it fell {9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}, sending him to the rail, one position shy of the final table.

Stay tuned for the final table draw and a wrap of the day’s action.

Lee Eliminated

Jamie Mulligan opened with a min-raise, before he was faced with an all-in from Jason Lee, for an additional 105,000 in chips. Mulligan made the call, and both players tabled their cards.

Mulligan: {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}
Lee: {Q-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

“I don’t mind losing, as long as there’s no ace,” requested Lee.

The board didn’t oblige though, as it ran out {A-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{10-Spades}{10-Hearts}{X-}, to see Lee finish agonizingly close to the final table.

Mulligan Doubles

The action started with Andre Nunes-Carreira opening for 20,000 before Jamie Mulligan in the small blind, moved all in for 225,000. Nunes-Carreira called, and the cards were tabled.

Nunes-Carreira: {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}
Mulligan: {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Mulligan flopped top two-pair, and faded a five when the board fell {10-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades} to see him double to 475,000, as Nunes-Carreira drops down to 245,000.

Swannack Eliminated

The most recent elimination occurred when Cole Swannack got the remainder of his short-stack in pre-flop, and was called by Sebastian Martineau.

Swannack: {5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Martineau: {J-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

The {5-Clubs} on the turn paired Swannack, but the {6-Clubs} on the river would be no help, as he made his way from the tournament, NZ$7,245 richer.

Nunes-Carreira Doubles

With approximately 50,000 in the pot, and the board reading {4-Spades}{2-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, Patrick Healy checked his option before Andre Nunes-Carreira bet out 20,000. Healy then raised to 60,000, which was called. The turn fell the {9-Spades}, and Healy moved all in for infinite chips. Nunes-Carreira shook his head as he obliged, making the call, for his remaining 80,000 in chips. He tabled his {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} and was surprised that Healy only held the {8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} for a single pair. The river missed Healy, as Nunes-Carreira scooped up the pot, worth 400,000 in chips. Healy took a hit to his stack, dropping down to 300,000 in chips.

Ng Eliminated in the First Hand Back

In the first hand from the break, and the flop reading {2-Spades}{5-Clubs}{6-Clubs}, Brendon Ng moved all in for his remaining chips, and was called by Monica Eastick.

Ng: {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Eastick: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}

The {7-Spades} on the turn gave Ng some more outs, as an eight would also assure him a chop. The {q-Clubs} on the river, however, meant his tournament was over, as he collects NZ$6,210 for his efforts.
