PokerNews Exclusive: Isildur1 Speaks About his $4 Million Loss to Brian Hastings (17)

Prieure - agree with you on the bankroll management stuff, he prob wud have gone broke, same as montanas before him.

the impression i got from hastings interview was that he had shared information with townsend as he said he really needed to thank townsend as he is one of the hardest working players etc.

i think the identity thing has to do with the tax situation in sweden. if the tax man finds out, i dont think isildur needsto worry about going broke by hastings!

PokerNews Exclusive: Isildur1 Speaks About his $4 Million Loss to Brian Hastings (17)

This is far from a non-issue.

The collation of hand histores by other players is not allowed. Essentially 2 players combined all their sessions against Isildur, analysed his playing style and then passed this information to Brian Hastings. He had an unfair advantage over Isildur in that he knew his style from the outset and was able to take advantage. Im not saying that Hastings couldnt still have won the session but to record the biggest winning session ever?

I dont know about Isildr getting money back from anyone but to say Hastings should sue is stupid, Hastings shud b lucky not to get banned from Full Tilt

PokerNews Exclusive: Isildur1 Speaks About his $4 Million Loss to Brian Hastings (17)

This is a bad situation for poker.Clearly,Isildur has a case as Brian Hastings had an edge over him by knowing his complete playing style.

The CardRunners crew are renowned for their analytical approach to the game and by combining all their hand histories against Isildur, they were able to devise the best optimal strategy in how to beat him. Isildur didnt know his previous sessions against Townsend & South had being analysed in-depth and were avalibale to Hastings. All these previous sessions would have shown what moves Isildur was making in certian situations, betting patterns, bluff patterns etc. After looking at 50,000 hands, you can be pretty sure a style of play becomes evident.

The question one has to ask - is there an advantage in Hastings having this information? Course there is - did Isildur have similar information, no he didnt. Essentially, Hastings had Isildurs play book studied inside out - study that he was able to do by the combination of Townsends & Souths previous sessions.

Brian Hastings manages to win $4.2m in one session, something which Patrik Antonious, Phil Ivey & Tom Dwan hadnt managed. Prior to the Hastings session, Isildur had held his own against the other 3 players. Yeah the swings were big but they were swings, it wasnt all one way traffic like the Hastings session.

Isildur mentions in his interview that he played anyone - well isnt this what true poker is supposed to be. Isildure sat down man to man with Ivey, Antonious, Dwan and done battle with them. All games were started with no knowledge of each others play except that all were known as tough competitors. No history, just pure poker where over time you establish your opponents style of play.

Final point, Tom Dwan lost millions to Isildur, but I would perusme that based on his sessions he would have analysed his game versus Isildur and was making adjustments, devising counter strategy to win back in future sessions. Essentially he paid with his bankroll for the information - yet Hastings who had hardly ever played against Isildur was able to devise optimal strategy from the get go and win the largest ever online poker sesiion!

The biggest ever online winning poker session? surely any knowlegable poker fans would think that this feat would be achieved by Ivey, Antonious or Dwan and not some unknown in Brian Hastings. Sorry Brian but, up to this, for most of the poker world you are an unknown player.

I only hope Full Tilt poker step in and sort this mess out. Cos Isildur needs to be protected - would such a situation had occured if it was one of the Full Tilt regulars who was having their game taken apart.

Guys,

'One thing is for sure, U.S. citizens love to get some action with their favorite sport event.'

Can you imagine the tax revenue the US gov would generate by allowing sports betting. Think of all the inplay action one could have on a NFL game.Smile

Most estimates of the US sports betting market are greatly under estimated.

Since the US betting ban in 2006, sports coverage has gotten bigger all over the world. ESPN and the major US sports networks are becoming bigger and more interactive with viewers.

One day, it will happen - sport has simply become to big for US citizens not to wager on the outcome.
