2011 Poker Player Class Superlatives (2)

Great recall on the Galen Hall fold. If I was not sitting right there in the press room watching it, I wouldn't believe it either. When I interviewed him after he calmly, mathematically & strategically broke it down and was all "probably about 70% to be behind, so Id look for a better spot."

This press release is fairly obvious...it's more blanket cover. Sad.

Initial Reactions From House Ways and Means Committee Hearing (2)

Glad to see they finally gave up the charade and made it focus on Internet Gambling and not Poker. Seperating the two for the public was impossible, a carve out won't happen unless it's bought and 'a certain lobby group' was far too well funded by those with online casino interests to ever make a clear stand. Good work guys!

PokerStars' NAPT Looks for Success in a Crowded Market (1)

Is it fair to say that with two major, global, billion dollar companies involved that politician will feel comfortable enough being 'greased' now to action anti-UIEGA legislation? I'll take it, even if its corrupted with horse racing and drain-game approval.

In poker, only those strong of bankroll management (or borrowing power) can survive! Poker Darwinism brought to you by the NAPT.

That said, I think the leverage it will put on the way juice is paid, how preliminary events are set up and how player stats/points (leagues, POY races, uber-'World Championship' event possibilities)are tracked will be some of the subtle but critical changes this tour can bring about. PS has a competitive cost advantage both getting players to events and running them. They have a large, well oiled, experienced team and can offer locations outsourced, deep discounts to run even bigger, more successful events and fatten the properties bottom line.

This is the best win-win story for poker players in years.

Darvin Moon vs. Billy Kopp: The $45 Million Dollar Hand Revisited (3)

Wow, so this is pretty much a direct transcription so I'm sorry if some of the structure makes reading through a bit difficult.

I think this goes a long way to show how flustered we all get inside a hand and how quickly we can snap to decisions that might not be clear to us in recall.

I think it also shows that Mr. Moon is a crafty, careful player and is maybe not the Mr. 100% dumb luck he portrays. I think his reasoning is sound here. (why would Kopp drop the hammer betting the nut flush or a set? and Why not take a shot to set-mine when you have a ton of chips even if its not a clear 8:1 situation?) So the recall error is a bit comical (and I MUST state he was ADAMANT that his recall was correct and the reporting was wrong.) I don't think its the end of the world...just a real look 'inside the mind' of a player in the middle of big money decisions at key times.

We saw Ivey toss a winning flush, Begs miscalculate his actual outs by a long shot and some play that could best be described as 'expert coin flipping' so I think that this is not a big strike against Moon.
