Poker Player Garrett Adelstein to Appear on Season 28 of Hit TV Show Survivor

On Feb. 26, 2014, the 28th season of the hit TV show Survivor will air on CBS. The latest season will take place in Cagayan — a province in the Philippines — and feature eighteen new players divided into three tribes based on brawn, beauty, and brains. CBS recently revealed the cast for the upcoming season and it includes an eclectic mix including former NBA player Cliff Robinson, president of the MLB’s Miami Marlins David Samson, and poker player Garrett Adelstein.

Adelstein, a 27-year-old from Santa Monica, California, will be a part of the “Brains” tribe, which is named Luzon. The “Beauty” and “Brawns” tribes are named Solana and Aparri, respectively.

Adelstein follows in the footsteps of noted poker pro Jean-Robert Bellande, who was a contestant on Season 15 of Survivor, which took place in China. Adelstein doesn’t quite boast the poker résumé as Bellande, but according to HendonMob he’s amassed $122,766 in lifetime tournament winnings including a 24th-place finish in the 2008 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event for $48,000; 222nd in the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event for $48,847; and 25th in the 2011 WSOP $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em Triple Chance for $25,919.

“Dedicated 2,000 hours in preparing for the strategic, social and physical elements of Survivor,” Adelstein said in his Survivor profile. “Did everything from 50 hours of yoga, to over-analyzing every episode, to mastering slide puzzles to ready myself. I essentially devoted my entire life to preparing for this adventure for the previous six months.”

PokerNews reached out to CBS to arrange an interview with Adelstein, though he won’t be available for comment for a few weeks.
