PartyPoker Million V Ready To Set Sail

One of the most venerable online poker rooms is ready to hit the high seas next week in the latest incarnation of one of the most popular poker events around today. Along with this renewal, even more gambling action will be had by the attendees of the event and, once the gaming is done, will be enjoying the salty air and exotic locales the trip provides as they sail through the Caribbean.

The PartyPoker Million V sets sail from Fort Lauderdale, FL, on March 12th with over 500 poker players ready to vie for the championship of the event. The cruisers will board the Holland Americas' M. S. Westerdam for a week of fun and sun in the Caribbean and the passenger list will be filled with a highly challenging field. Most of the players participating in the tournament have qualified on PartyPoker during the last year and come to battle for a first place prize that will easily break the $1 million mark. What makes the tournament unique is that it is a Limit event; in a day when No-Limit tournaments are all the rage, the PartyPoker Million has always been determined in a Limit format, which presents a different challenge, mindset and strategy for the pros and online players amassed for the tournament.

The PartyPoker Million history has been long, influential and illustrious, which can be seen from a look at the champions in the history of the event. Poker professional Kathy Liebert made poker history when she became the first woman to ever take down a $1 million championship when she won the inaugural event in 2002. Howard Lederer was the champion at the second event in 2003 and Erick Lindgren added to the legendary list of champions when he took the title in 2004. This year's battle on the felt will be well attended by the professional ranks, including last year's victor.

Among the players participating in this year's event are the defending champion, Maciek "Michael" Gracz, who kicked off his rookie year in poker with not only the PartyPoker Million IV victory but also showed it wasn't a lucky turn by coming back and capturing a World Series of Poker bracelet in 2005. He'll be joined by Aaron Kanter, who parlayed his poker experience into a fourth place finish at the World Series of Poker Championship Event last year, and poker professionals Barry Greenstein, Chip and Karina Jett, Mel Judah, Barry Shulman, Dewey Tomko and Mimi Tran, among many others. They, along with hundreds of online players, will see just who is the best among the PartyPoker world.

While the PartyPoker Million V is a huge event, this year's cruise will also feature some other gaming activities for the passengers. PartyPoker is also bringing along 100 Blackjack wizards who will be competing as well in the $250,000 World Blackjack Championships held aboard the ship. In addition to this tournament, a $50,000 slots tournament will also be featured on board the M. S. Westerdam's casino.

When all is completed at the tables (in one way or another), the passengers on the PartyPoker Million V cruise will enjoy the lush Caribbean weather and ports of call in the Grand Cayman Islands and Jamaica. This, along with the other amenities provided by the M. S. Westerdam, ensures that all will have a great time with the PartyPoker Million V, whether they walk away from the tournament with the championship or bust on the first day. The ship returns to Fort Lauderdale on March 19th.

The PartyPoker Million V is going to be filmed as part of a documentary, so we should have an opportunity to see the adventure unfold soon. Will the documentary portray another up and coming online player or a seasoned professional who takes the title? And just how much fun is it to spend a week playing poker and sailing the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean? Until the documentary airs, we'll keep you updated on what happens with the PartyPoker Million V as it sets sail on another fantastic voyage on March 12th.

Ed note: Is it too early to start qualifying for next years PPM? Probably. But, play at Party Poker anyway. Sign up today!
