2010 WCOOP Preview: Highlights from the 2009 WCOOP and an Opening Look at 2010 0001

Saddle up! The PokerStars 2010 World Championship of Online Poker kicks off on Sunday. The closest online tournament series to the 2010 WCOOP is undoubtedly its 2009 predecessor. Many stories emerged from last year, none bigger than Yevgeniy “Jovial Gent” Timoshenko topping the field in the Main Event. In addition, several online poker stars earned two bracelets each. Let's take a quick look at some of the highlights from the 2009 WCOOP.

2009 WCOOP

45 events
112,739 - total entrants
$51,652,800 - total prize pool

Largest Cash – Yevgeniy “Jovial Gent” Timoshenko ($1,715,200)

Timoshenko's win in the 2009 Main Event is the largest in WCOOP history. He topped a field of 2,143 others to get it done. Day 2 of the tournament saw 178 players return, and Timoshenko began the day seventh in chips. After navigating to the final table, he had to contend with chip leader Dan “djk123” Kelly. With four players remaining, Timoshenko picked up pocket kings to Kelly's pocket tens and sent the online star to the rail, paving the way to his victory.

Multiple Bracelet WinnersRyan “g0lfa” D'Angelo, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, and Dan “djk123” Kelly

Most Final Tables Made – 3 – Dan “djk123” Kelly, Matt “Plattsburgh” Vengrin, and Aaron “GambleAB” Bartley
