While both PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker have issued statements regarding the allegations levied at them in the indictments issued by the United States Department of Justice, the poker world took note that Absolute Poker had remained silent on the issue. That all changed on Thursday when Absolute issued the following statement:
“Absolute Poker has retained Blank Rome LLP as United States counsel to provide legal advice in relation to civil and criminal matters filed in federal court in Manhattan and made public on April 15, 2011. Absolute Poker is aware that on April 19, 2011, the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York entered into separate agreements with FullTilt Poker and PokerStars. These agreements concern the use of the respective www.fulltiltpoker.com and www.pokerstars.com domain names. The US Attorney, in a press release dated April 20, 2011, stated that the government is willing to enter the same agreement with Absolute Poker and UB.
“At this time, Absolute Poker’s top priority is, and must be, the refund of balances to its and UB’s US players. However, given the far-reaching consequences of the US Attorney’s actions for Absolute Poker and for the entire poker community, Absolute Poker believes that the responsible course of action is to review with its attorneys the relevant court filings before taking any action."
“Absolute Poker believes that the US Attorney shares the view that refunds to US players are an immediate and pressing concern, and Absolute Poker wishes to make clear that it wants to work cooperatively with the US Attorney to safely and efficiently return its players’ funds. To that end, Absolute Poker’s counsel has initiated communications with the US Attorney’s office and plans to continue proactively advancing those discussions."
“Further information and timely updates will be provided to Absolute Poker/UB’s players as we move forward.”

does anyone else think this issue reflects on yhe U.S. past involvement in slavery, by denying what 100's of thousands of its citizens are participating in with a law that is possibly unconstitutional? All it takes is one happy fool to jump in and abuse his power to let the country sink into a situation similar to slavery, a restriction of it's citizens right-present case, the right to play online poker.
I take issue with flint, who seems to believe that the DOJ is forcing anybody to do anything. From the start (circa 2005-6), this has been about two things: Money and Politics. Why would that change now? It hasn't. Now it's just about collecting the money, via bigger politics than the "Big Three" have proven they have littler control over.
donfisher, if I were you, I'd keep my bags packed bro. You may just get tapped to fulfill your 2011 WSOP main event fantasy after all. I mean, the DOJ is playing hardball right now. But there's a point at where they're not going to stand in the way of industry growth and/or progression. Many might argue that that's exactly what they've done - to hinder Poker's growth and progression. But at the moment, it's really just about money and politics - how much money, who's gonna pay, and how to collect it. Things like indictments and jail time are more about who 'specifically' needs to be held accountable. But Poker consumers will get their DisneyWorld back soon enough.
That said, if a reasonable argument can be made (and I think it can), that Poker relies on the WSOP main event to spur it's industry growth each year, then special consideration may be made to individuals who won seats to the main event, so that participation doesn't recede during 2011. Good luck my friend, I think your chances are good.
Just to update everyone. At this time I am still getting nothing but a run around on UB regarding the $12000 package that they owe me that I won! There are 45 of us that won seats to the WSOP and right now that is in jeapordy! They are saying that we all have to sit tight and wait for a "resolution" is the word they keep using over and over again. Why would they not take the deal that the DOJ has given FT and PS? I might also add and note that at this time the DOJ has not gathered up the other 8 people BIG SUPRISE! Why would any govt or interpol go out of their way to drag in citezens for an activity that is legal in the REST OF THE WORLD and has never been proven to be illegal here??? I have read plenty of legal statements in my life and the way UB's basically reads is that they are not going to give players money unless the get the resolution they want from the DOJ. Pretty depressing when you think about it! Although for those of us that they owe $10000 ( they have already credited the $2000 before all this mess happened) we all need to look towards June 6th which according to ub.net is the day they are supposed to give us all our money that we all rightfully are due to be paid! There is no fine print that says if they get in trouble with the DOJ that they don't have to pay. I am really hoping that they do teh right thing.
