After Tuesday's Day 1a, the World Poker Tour Mazagan continued at the luxurious Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort in Morocco on Wednesday. The first flight was 66 players strong, and a combined field size of 146 competitors was generated after another 80 came out for Day 1b. At the end of the day, Clement Beauvois emerged as the overall chip leader as his stack of 166,800 surpassed the 134,800 from Guillaume Darcourt on the previous day.

The field generated a prize pool of $577,387, and the top 18 places are set to be paid out. Up top is $168,207 for the eventual winner, and included in that top prize is a $25,000 seat to the WPT Championship at Bellagio in 2013.

Beauvois wasn't the only player on Day 1b to build an impressive stack. Alain Roy, Leonard Truche, Sebastien Compte, Pascal Hocquard, Bruno Fitoussi and Alexandra Petitjean all amassed over 100,000.

Fitoussi was working on his second bullet after he busted on Day 1a, but this time around he fared much better. It was reported that Fitoussi first eliminated Hafid Kinany Alaoui with a set of threes on the A10632 board before tangling with Davidi Kitai, who was also on his second bullet.

During Level 6 with the blinds at 200/400/50, Fitoussi opened with a raise from the cutoff seat to 1,000. Alban Pothet called out of the small blind, then Kitai called from the big blind. On the 765 flop, Pothet led for 1,500, Kitai called, and Fitoussi called. Then, the 8 landed on the turn, and Pothet checked. Kitai fired 3,300, and Fitoussi called. Pothet folded, and the dealer completed the board with the 3. Kitai checked, and Fitoussi fired 7,100. Kitai tanked while sudying Fitoussi, but he received no information. After some thought, Kitai showed the 84 for a flopped straight and folded. Fitoussi flash a nine to show he had turned a higher straight as he raked in the pot.

Of those eliminated on the day were Thibaud Guenegou, Giovanni Rizzo and Kara Scott. Scott went out during Level 4 with the blinds at 100/200/25 at the hands of Compte. Her tournament was over when her AxKx couldn't muster a come-from-behind victory against Compte's pocket aces.

Other notables advancing to Day 2 were Roger Hairabedian, Gaelle Baumann, Lucille Cailly, Zimnan Ziyard and Bruno Lopes. Eighty-one player remai.

Speaking of Day 2, play is scheduled to begin at 1300 WET (0800 EST) on Thursday. As always, you can find a recap of the day’s action right here on PokerNews.
