PartyPoker Launches New Five-Stop WPT National UK Tour

PartyPoker

Following on from its recent rebranding and software upgrade, PartyPoker has revealed the launch of a brand new five-stop poker tour in the United Kingdom.

Falling under the banner of the popular World Poker Tour (WPT) National series, this new PartyPoker sponsored tour represents a first for tournament poker in the United Kingdom; each of its main events are played as an accumulator tournament. The first of these special tournaments, WPT National London, takes place at Aspers Casino Westfield City from October 24 through 27.

John Scanlon, the Poker Manager at Aspers Casino Westfield Stratford City, explained the accumulator format: “Players have the option to buy-in to one, two or all three of the Day one flights. At the end of each flight, we bag your chips and move them forward to Day 2. All chips from each flight are accumulated to give players their total starting stack for Day 2. The tournament is based on an innovative format from the Aussie Millions, where there was a big buzz amongst players about the best strategy to play. The structure is all about bringing more people into the game at various levels of buy-ins.”

The WPT National London Main Event costs £180+£20 to buy into on each Day 1, although it could cost much less if you qualify at PartyPoker where there are a plethora of satellite tournaments taking place. There are seat-only satellites or full packages that award two tournament entries and £241 in spending money. Be sure to check them out at the new PartyPoker.com.

There was a WPT National London Main Event in March 2013, but it was played as a standard freezeout. Reece Lewis won the £80,000 first place prize after outlasting the 217 other opponents who ponied up the £1,650 buy-in. With the significantly lower buy-in and the new accumulator format, the turnout for the latest WPT National London Main Event should be much higher.

Although yet to be confirmed in an official capacity, PokerNews has learned that this new tour will head to venues in Milton Keynes, Newcastle and Northampton in its début season. As soon as we have more details available, we will relay the information to you.
