UK & Ireland PokerNews Round Up: Live Tournaments Galore 0001

Booming. That's how we'd describe the live poker tournament scene in the United Kingdom and Ireland right now. The past couple of weeks have seen the World Poker Tour Alpha8 and its high rollers drop in on the swanky Palm Beach casino, the PokerStars UKIPT and European Poker Tour descend on the equally lavish Grand Connaught Rooms, and major tournaments take place in Leeds, Luton and in the capital of Ireland, Dublin.

Booming.

We mentioned the Alpha8 London event, which was of course taken down by the seemingly unstoppable Daniel Colman.

Shortly after Colman's latest victory, the PokerStars UKIPT rolled into town and brought with it 1,089 Main Event entrants, making it one of the largest UKIPT Main Events of all time. Brett Angell emerged victorious when the dust had settled and is still in seventh heaven thanks to him securing his largest-ever payout.

Angell took part in the £4,250 buy-in EPT London Main Event, but failed emulate his UKIPT success.

Away from the hustle bustle of London, the Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) UK Championships were playing out in Leeds. Carl Norris was the man who walked away with the lion's share of the spoils after outlasting 122 opponents.

By the time the next UK & Ireland PokerNews round up hits your screens two more major tournaments will have wrapped up and crowned their champions. The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) kicked off in Luton on October 16 while across the Irish Sea the Boylepoker IPO Dublin Main Event is in full swing. We will bring you recaps of the action from those exciting events.

Booming.

There was also news not generated by a live poker tournament, too. Titanbet signed a deal with the UK's leading tabloid The Sun to sponsor a sports betting tipster column, while the Irish government are busy following in the footsteps of the UK's by introducing a new online gaming tax for offshore operators.
