Jonathan Jaffe Wins partypoker.net WPT Montreal at Playground Poker Club for $429,106
The 2014 partypoker.net World Poker Tour Montreal wrapped up Wednesday night at Playground Poker Club in Canada. The Main Event attracted 732 entries over three starting flights, and when all was said and done it was poker pro Jonathan Jaffe that emerged victorious to capture the $429,106 first-place prize.
With the win, Jaffe, who finished second in the WPT Season VII Foxwoods Poker Finals, brought his lifetime earnings to over $2 million.

According to WPT live updates, it took just 10 hands for the first elimination of the final table to occur. It happened in Level 29 (40,000/80,000/10,000) when Guillaume Nolet, who was crippled after Mukul Pahuja doubled through him, called off his last 30,000 from middle position. Ratharam Sivagnanam tried to isolate with a raise to 200,000 from the button, but Jaffe responded with a three-bet to 480,000 from the big blind. Sivagnanam called and then folded to a bet of 175,000 from Jaffe on the Q♦J♣J♠ flop.

Nolet: 9♦4♣
Neither the 3♥ turn nor Q♣ river helped Nolet, and he was eliminated in sixth place for $83,658. Then, on Hand #25, Sam Chartier followed him out the door after running his 7♦7♥ into the Q♥Q♠ of Sivagnanam. Chartier took home $103,537 for his fifth-place finish.
Just 10 hands after that, Kevin MacPhee fell when he got his stack all in preflop holding the K♦10♣. Unfortunately for him, Jaffe looked him up with the A♣Q♣ and won the hand with a full house after the board ran out A♦Q♦8♣A♠7♣. MacPhee earned $138,278 for his fourth-place finish.
On Hand #54, which took place in Level 31 (60,000/120,000/20,000), Jaffe raised to 260,000 from the button only to have Pahuja three-bet to 740,000 from the big blind. Jaffe then four-bet to 1.4 million and snap-called after Pahuja five-bet shoved for 4.6 million.

It was a bad spot for Pahuja, and it got even worse when the K♥7♠2♦ flop delivered Jaffe a set. The 2♠ turn left Pahuja drawing dead, and after the 8♣ was run out on the river, the reigning WPT Player of the Year took his leave in third place for $186,964.

Jaffe began heads-up play with a nearly 3-1 chip lead over Sivagnanam, but it would take 81 hands before a winner was determined. It happened on Hand #135 in Level 36 (200,000/400,000/50,000) when Sivagnanam limped the button and Jaffe raised to 1.4 million from the big blind. Sivagnanam tanked for about a minute before shoving for 5.225 million and Jaffe snap-called.

Sivagnanam was drawing to two live cards, but he missed as the board ran out a dry 6♥4♠3♠J♥Q♥. Sivagnanam was awarded $290,111 for his runner-up finish while Jaffe captured the $429,106 first-place prize and etched his name on the WPT Champions’ Cup.
