February Poker Social Media Highlights

Social media is a powerful force in poker, with many players supplementing their poker-related news and gossip via this medium. The PokerStars Blog titled Best Poker Moments From Social Media — February 2016 examines some of the social media highlights from last month.

Among the highlights mentioned in detail in the blog are Jason Somerville breaking a Twitch record in Australia, Mikel Habb failing in an attempt to slow roll Sam Abernathy deep in the APPT Aussie Millions Main Event, Ronaldo and Neymar Jr birthday celebrations, an epic hand in the EPT Dublin €25,750 High Roller, and Daniel Negreanu prevailing at the American Poker Awards.

One highlight we will give you a sneak peak of in the video below was Phil Ivey successfully making a huge over-bet for value on the river at the Aussie Millions.

Isaac Haxton Bluffs with the Nut Low in the PCA Main Event

Former PokerStars Team Online member Isaac Haxton is known for having good reads on his opponents.

While heads-up against Ryan Daut during the 2007 World Poker Tour PCA Main Event, Haxton barrelled on the river with the 32, the nut low on a board of Q4AKQ, for a bet of 700,000. Daut, who was also weak with the 75 raised the action to 2 million. While most players would likely fold in this spot, Haxton opted to reraise all in for 4.125 million in chips. Daut folded, but he had the last laugh when he eventually went on to win the event.

Pure Poker Wednesdays on partypoker

Partypoker has been shaking things up lately. On the heals of the successful Powerfest series, the online poker room announced the introduction of Pure Poker Wednesdays, in a blog titled Prepare for Pure Poker Wednesdays, which begin this week on March 23.

On Wednesdays, partypoker is transforming many of its popular tournaments from reentry format to freezeouts stating that this is what players believe is the purest form of poker. To add a little value, even without reentries the guaranteed prize pools will remain the same.

Additionally, the format of these tournaments will be a bit different with partypoker changing the structure to mirror what players experience during the WPT. This means players will start with 30,000 chips and blinds at 50/100 with antes kicking in quickly during the third blind level.
