The World Poker Tour National Heads To Portugal for the First Time Ever Next Week

World Poker Tour

The World Poker Tour National (WPTN) is heading to Portugal next week, marking the first time ever that the poker tour will be taking place in the country.

The poker festival takes place at Solverde Casino Espinho from May 8-15, highlighted by the €750 WPT National Iberia Main Event from May 12-15.

In addition to the Main Event taking place at Casino Espinho, thanks to a partnership with the Multi-Venue Series opening days will also take place in two locations in Spain, including Gran Casino Madrid and Casino Barcelona. This has allowed festival organizers to slap a generous €333,333 guaranteed prize pool for the tournament.

Action will kick off for the Main Event at all locations with two opening days on May 12-13 followed by Day 2 on May 14 and Day 3 on May 15. The event is a deep-stacked affair with players starting off with 30,000 opening chips and 40 minute blind levels.

Players at each location will continue playing until there is only seven percent of the field remaining. Surviving players will then head to Gran Casino Madrid on May 22-23 where the tournament will be played out to its completion.

Four satellites are scheduled to take place for the Main Event at Casino Espinho where players can get in on the exciting action for just €110 or a fraction of the €750 buy-in. The satellites kick off with players starting with 5,000 opening chips and 20 minute blind levels. Players are allowed to rebuy for free for the first three blind levels in addition to receiving a free add-on of 10,000 chips.

While the Main Event allows players from three different locations to compete for a huge prize pool, Casino Espinho is also hosting a handful of exclusive events.

Higher-limit players can enjoy the three-day €1,500 Welcome WPT High Roller from May 10-12. The tournament is capped at 40 players and allows for plenty of action with 50,000 opening chips, 40 minute blind levels, and one re-entry.

Players on more of a budget will be able to enjoy a pair of tournaments including the €160 WPT Wanted Bounty on May 14-15 and the €80 WPT Last Chance to Win on May 15.

Solverde Casino Espinho is convenient located just 15 minutes from Porto and approximately 30 minutes from Porto airport. Players looking for accommodations are recommended to head to www.solverde.pt where when using the promotional code "WPT2016" they can book their stay at Hotel Apartamento Solverde starting at just €58 per night and at Hotel Solverde Spa & Wellness Center starting at just €129 per night.
