2016 PokerNews Cup Main Event Day 1b: Reinhard Foidl Leads After Day 1b as 43 Advance 0001

The second out of four starting days of the €250 buy-in PokerNews Cup at the King's Casino in Rozvadov attracted a field of 191 entries, which includes 29 reentries and boosted the overall field thus far to 347. After 14 levels of 30 minutes each, just 43 participants bagged up chips. It was an open race towards the end of the night for the lead, and ultimately it was Austria's Reinhard Foidl who accumulated the most with 350,000.

Foidl is followed by Spain's Francisco Arce (335,000), who is now calling Vienna his home and came over with two friends, and Josef Mestl (321,500) completes the overnight podium. Sebastian Langrock also claimed a big stack with 302,000 and the German said that he likes the event because if offers a better structure for Day 1 than most of the low-budget tournaments. Furthermore, the guarantee in combination with an affordable buy-in makes for a lot of action at the tables and the mix of different player types adds to the fun experience.

Others that made it through to Day 2 include Calin Furdui (229,000), Karol Janiszewski (183,000), and Konstantin Kostyakov (60,500). Patrick Wolff and Pavel Novotny played twice to no avail while other notables such as Petr Targa, Marek Bartoszewicz, Anna Yamshchikova, Aleksei Ivanov and Thomas Zurek were also sent to the rail.

A total of 15 players won their package through TonyBet and one of them is Paulius Vaitiekünas, who won the trip after starting in the step system for just 50 cents. Asked why so many Lithunanians made it to Rozvadov, Vaitiekünas said the following: "I was in my Sunday session and friends told me to play the Satellites on TonyBet, because there was so much overlay. I won the first step, then got into the next one and the Super Satellite had five packages guaranteed. Only two of us won the package, but we came over here with eight because you got the nice hotel room included. And well, you know, Lithuanians love poker." Vaitiekünas will be back for Day 2 on Sunday after bagging up 91,000.

Curtis Millinghton was also among today's participants and he is hailing from the UK, but currently works in Prague and noticed the event on social media. "I actually saw it on the PokerNews Twitter. It seemed really nice and the affordable buy-in with such a guarantee is great. I play quite a bit of poker anyways and stay until Monday." Millinghton didn't bag in the Main Event, but headed straight to the €100 Ticket & Ca$h Side Event that attracted a total of 190 entries.

Today the two remaining starting flights of the Main Event are scheduled: Day 1c gets underway at 1 p.m. local time and Day 1d starts at 5 p.m. Furthermore the €100 King's Local Championship with a guarantee of €20,000 provides levels of 30 minutes and a starting stack of 20,000 as of 7 p.m. at Europe's biggest card room.

Make sure to follow the updates, as the PokerNews live reporting team will be on hand to provide all the key action until a winner is crowned on Monday.
