Global Poker Index: Fedor Holz Still First, Nick Petrangelo Now Second
Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a player's results over six half-year periods. Fedor Holz still leads the Global Poker Index 2016 Player of the Year race, and in fact added to his lead over Paul Volpe in second position and the rest of the chase pack after winning yet another high roller event, this time the €50,000 Super High Roller at European Poker Tour Barcelona.
Holz topped a field of 102 entries to earn the trophy and a €1,300,300 first prize, his fifth career seven-figure score, all of which he's earned in the last eight months. This makes 11 weeks at the top of the POY list for the young German.
The other item of note in this week's POY top 10 is the upward move of another EPT Barcelona high roller winner, Nick Petrangelo who jumped all of the way from No. 50 to No. 6 this week. Petrangelo won the festival-opening €10,300 Single Reentry event, besting a 240-entry field to take away a €413,000 first prize.

The triumphs of Holz and Petrangelo are reflected in the updated overall GPI rankings as well, with Holz adding points to extend his lead and Petrangelo moving up from No. 4 to No. 2 to equal his previous career-high ranking.
Former No. 1 Steve O'Dwyer has also improved his positioning in the overall rankings by moving from No. 10 to No. 5 this week. O'Dwyer moved up thanks to a fifth-place finish in the €25,500 Single Reentry High Roller at EPT Barcelona won by Pratyush Buddiga following a three-way chop.

As expected, the large number of results from EPT Barcelona helped create a lot of movement up and down the GPI rankings, with one consequence being no less than 20 new names in this week's top 300 list. [Removed:17], part of that three-way chop in the €25,500 Single Reentry High Roller mentioned above (he took second), is the highest-ranked of this group after moving up from No. 327 to No. 147.
Juha Helppi also cashed in the €25,500 Single Reentry High Roller (finishing 19th) as well as a couple of other events in Barcelona this week to move from No. 302 to No. 152.

Looking inside the top 300 at the biggest gainers of the week, Alexandros Kolonias made the most dramatic upward move, going all of the way from No. 815 to No. 221 on the strength of three EPT Barcelona cashes including a fourth-place showing in the €50,000 Super High Roller.
Kitty Kuo has a couple of EPT Barcelona cashes as well, one being her sixth-place finish in the €10,300 Single Reentry, to move from No. 421 to No. 211. Kuo's highest previous GPI ranking has been No. 60 in January 2014.
