Any advice for the beginning player?

We know of one player two or three years ago who got the bug, and with 6 months of real poker experience, opened an online account, and jumped right into the $15/30 game. Within six weeks, he had burned through five grand, and hasn't played poker since. Poker is such a grand game, but must be used with caution. Patience wins, speed kills.
