I begin with the bottom line; do not buy these books! I will tell you why in the paragraphs that follow but the important thing is to understand that neither author has a clue about poker in the real world, by their own admission....
The writer is either being wilfully naive or is simply blind to the danger that collusion presents to the honest poker player. There is a wall of silence surrounding this cancer, and this dismissive review of 'Dirty Poker' is doing a disservice to those players who are unaware of or are presently unconcerned by these activities. Human nature being what it is, and the pressures of professional poker play being what they are, it is likely that the vast majority of top players are 'cheating' in some form or another, be it collusion, chip dumping or 'merely' soft playing other professionals in certain circumstances.
I can play poker well, and can afford to play for relatively large amounts of money, but having observed carefully these big money games, and knowing (and having spoken off the record to) some of the players involved in them, I have no wish to be involved. And yes, I have been approached to join one 'team' or another.
