It's been about two weeks since we released our first three articles on the two million extra chips introduced into the 2006 WSOP Main Event. We have gotten feedback from a lot of different segments of the poker community....
radio frequecy identy tags are now cheap use them in side the tourny chips
or eletronic tables with real cards and pixel chips linked to a number pads and a smart card to place the bets as online playes use then all chips (even the $25) will still be around on the final table.
I have been trying to follow this but have never seen on any of the major forums any comment from a player remaining at the time of the error. Did you try to talk to any of these players, and , if so, what was their response?
Of course we attempted to contact nearly all of the players remaining at the time of the color up. Many had no comment, some did not reply, and others didn't give comments we could work into the piece. For example. 17th place finisher Jeffrey Lisandro told me he "saw many things he did not like", and chose to leave it at that.
We are still collecting information about this story, and will update with any appropriate coments when possible. Thanks for reading.
You should be rewarded for your efforts. Great Job!
The fact remains, poker players need to organize, function under one organization, discipline members who do not obey the rules of the organization.
The PGA Tour is looked upon as the number one golf tour in the world. There are lots of golf tours that play for monies.
Why is the PGA the best? The PGA Tour is a volunteer, not-for-profit, 501-C-3 organization.
The PGA has the best players, promotes its product - the players, protects it product, the players, through rules followed by all, AND PLAYS FOR OTHER PEOPLES MONIES, AS A TAX RIGHT OFF FOR THE SPONSORS.
THIS OPPORTUNITY IS AVAILABLE NOW, FOR TOURNAMENT POKER PLAYERS. TOURNAMENT POKER PLAYERS SHOULD ACT NOW, WHILE THE WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY EXSISTS. (maybe the WPA?)
Does Harrah's really care if there were two million plus in extra chips, only if the players DON'T show up next year!
HARRAH'S rakes all the buy-ins, and keep all the monies from the advertisers. Who really makes the money?
Tournament poker players play for their own monies, and let someone else hire the staff, what a bunch of dummies!
I have invited Harrah's to join the World Poker Association and help develop the industry standards that are desperately needed. I have a followup meeting with Jeffrey Pollack and Gary Thompson in early October to discuss their potential involvement with the WPA. The WPA also invites every other casino to join us as well. Until we have a recognized governing body for tournament poker these types of mistakes will continue to happen. Of the players who responded in this article Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu, Gavin Smith and Andy Bloch are founding members of the WPA. Lou Krieger, Jay Greenspan, and Dave Lamb are voting members of the WPA. Dave Lamb is also serving on the WPA Rules Committee. I encourage you to continue to seek out problems that need fixing and bring them to the attention of the poker community. A very good job on highlighting the chip discrepancy problem.
While the 2006 circuit events were going on. Live tournament chips were for sale on Ebay, the ones with real tournament value. So people were taking them too? The same chips are used for every event, so anything is possible. And I remember reading an article about peoples chip counts not adding up to what players placed in the bag the night before and what was already at there table for them the next day. I think the electronic chip inside the poker chips is the way to go. Virtual chips wouldn't work, because you can't do chip tricks with virtual chips.
I stopped by the "Rio" during the Series, the level of chaotic cacophony was unbelievable. I believe the "Rio" got in over it's head. To split the tourney up amongst other willing casinos in the primary stages would assuage the confusion & promote a more playable & workable atmosphere.
