The passage of HB1269 by the Senate would cast a pall over an important Colorado industry. The"Limited Stakes" Gaming industry in Colorado provides jobs and is a tourist attraction.

To ban smoking entirly in the casinos will not only be an affront to personal freedoms, it will also be an obstruction in expanding Colorado gaming districts into regional and national destination resorts. Colorado needs tourism! It is an important economic factor in the state.

Envision if you can major national poker tournaments that draw players for all over the nation. Envision the tournaments offerings that will be spread for the enjoyment of the Colorado poker player.

Smoking is very common place among young and old alike. Like it or not. Most all of the Colorado casinos have excellent ventilation and second hand smoke is not a problem. Smoking is usually not allowed at the gaming tables and smoking areas are set up to accomadate smokers and appease the non smoker.

Casino employees for the most part are not effected by secondary smoke. A large percentage of the casino employees are not even working on the casino floor.

The secordary smoke issue is a bogus issue. No casino worker can be found that has suffered a liability caused by secondary smoke. If they could be found the lawyers would have filed suit by now, wouldn't they!?

Poker players should contact their Senator and ask that HB 1269 be quashed. Please go to leg.state.co.us to find your Senator. Make a respectful request that the Colorado economy should not be hampered and jobs should not be lost by this frivalous legislation.
