$5K PokerNews Freeroll on WingowsPoker.com

The PokerNews freeroll on WingowsPoker.com was just canceled. There were 23 players signed up but Wingows placed a minimum of 50 players required to hold the tournament. So Wingows canceled it. This ticks me off.

I understand that this is a business decision. Wingows was willing to host these tournaments in order to increase their traffic. They assumed that PokerNews players would download Wingows by the hundreds thus increasing their traffic by over 10%. But......they were wrong. Apparently there were only 23 of us PokerNewsers with WingowsPoker accounts that wanted to qualify for the PokerNews Cup Main Event. But that's just the way that it is.

Does this mean that the next 2 PokerNews Freerolls on WingowsPoker will have the same restrictions?? If that's the case, I look for the same results....cancellation. I played the WSOP Main Event PokerNews Freeroll on Wingows and there was actually about the same turn out. Wingows had loaded all players that had downloaded on PokerNews so the starting number of players was higher but there were 7-8 players sitting out at every table. The real number was close to the same as tonight's turn-out.

Now, what do we do?? I guess the 23 of us that were qualified are just S.O.L. Sure, there's always next time but like I said, I don't expect different results then either.

The funny thing is.....I actually LIKE the site. Sure, its' low traffic but the cash games and tournaments are rather soft. I've increased my deposit over 5X and I'm actually playing in the $1000 Weekly Guaranteed tournament while I'm typing this.

If anybody from PokerNews or WingowsPoker wants to discuss this with me, please feel free to comment or contact me at davega2003@yahoo.com.

I was under the impressive that if I met the requirements I would get to play in this freeroll.

You didn't get enough people to justify the freeroll? I don't really care.
The fact is: I was promised a freeroll for signing up via pokernews and meeting the requirements.
I've had dealings with other affiliates that do things exactly like this. Where I meet all the requirements and then they basically don't want to hold up their end of the bargain because it turns out to not be profitable.
Its your job to make sure your promotions are profitable beforehand.

I can't control how many people signed up for the freeroll. I can only control that I signed up.

Hi,

I agree with you both. This freeroll was cancelled by Wingows and not PokerNews. We are working with them to get it rescheduled.

Very sorry for the inconvenience.

I guess there is more than one thread about this. Here is what I posted in a different thread.

I too was waiting to play this tournament. (I honestly don't think that there were any more than a handful of us waiting to play.) I emailed the comments below to pokernews support.

---------------------------------------------------------

It is my feeling that the only just recompence for what happened on Saturday night is this...

The tournament should be rescheduled with only those who were logged in to play on the evening of the original tournament being eligible to compete.

A good number of the 23 entrants had been registered all day. It is my feeling that a great many of them would have been sitting out to blind off once the tourney started. Those not logged in at the original tourney's start time should not be eligible given that they did not intend to play.

Best regards,

Kevin

HP,

From the PokerNews home page, click on Freerolls on the right side of the page. Be sure to read the requirements for each site. Also, make sure you download the site through the links on PokerNews or you will not qualify.

OK. I see the PokerNews Freeroll in the Private Tournament Section on Wingows scheduled for August 11th at 8 EST. This should be the make up tournament since PokerNews lists another on August 25th. I look and I see that there are 23 signed up. Makes sense because there were originally 23 signed up before the last one was canceled.

Imagine my SURPRISE when I look and see that I AM NOT ON THIS LIST and neither is IMINTHEZONE. This means that Wingows has allowed players OTHER THAN THE ORIGINAL 23 THAT WERE REGISTERED for the CANCELED tournament to register for the make-up tournament. THIS IS SIMPLY WRONG. I don't care if there were other players that had qualified but failed to sign up for the canceled tournament. I don't care if other players have qualified since the canceled tournament.

The simple facts are that there were originally 23 players signed up when WingowPoker canceled the tournament due to THEIR SCREW-UP. And those are the ONLY players that should be allowed to enter the make-up tournament. It's not a make-up tournament if OTHER players are allowed to play. It's an additional tournament. That's not what Colin from Wingows led us to believe this would be. RESCHEDULED should mean same players, different time.

Now I'm ticked again. Angry I welcome any comments and would love some answers.

Hi All

The following decision has been made in order to keep all fairness towards all Pokernews players...

We will open the tournament to all qualifying players as otherwise it will cause too much confusion with players who meet the requirements...

There was a lot more players that had qualified for the last tournament also that either didnt bother registering or didnt know about the ticketing system...

From now on all qualifying players will receive an email from Wingowspoker inviting them to play in the tournaments they qualify for to avoid any further confusion

We again apologise for the technicah hitch with the last tournament and do wish you all the very best of luck in the upcoming POkernews cup freerolls

Best Regards

Colin

Colin,

Qualified but not registered should not be included in a rescheduled tournament. What you have basicly done is stretched the qualifying so that there can be more players in the tournament so participation is closer to the minimum that was "inadvertently" set the last time. How is allowing a player that wasn't registered originally to play being fair to anybody?? It's definately not fair to the original 23. I guess if I didn't register for the WSOP, I'd think it was fair if they rescheduled and let me play too. Sorry, but not logical.
Also, does this mean that there will be no tickets for future freerolls? I thought that was a good system and very easy to track whether you had qualified or not. But I guess it was only easy for 23 of us.

But I guess it really doesn't matter whether it's fair or logical. Wingows is in control of the situation so we have to live with whatever we get.

^^^^wholeheartedly agree w/ Dave^^^^

The way this has been handled (lack of timely general communication / a failure to address thought-out direct questions / a solution that basically slaps the faces of those Wingows is trying to attract as regular players) is a black-eye on the integrity Wingows Poker.

It also does not present pokernews (whose impartiality here is severely in question because Wingows is a sponsor) in a favorable light despite assertions by Support to the contrary. I don't think Tomas trying to "wash his hands" of the outcome changes anything.

I'm extremely frustrated but am now resigned to what has been decided.

Thank you to the 3 or 4 fellow forumites who posted on this here attempting to right the wrong.

Best regards,

Couldn't agree more - someone (I dont know whether it is wingows or PokerNews) is paying a lot of money for us to try their software, in the hope of getting us as regular players - if they cant even organise a single freeroll satisfactorily, that's never going to happen - why do so many poker rooms get so many simple things wrong?

"this decision was made by Wingows not PokerNews... please contact support@wingowspoker.com with your comments"

lol - I've just had a reply from Wingows - Nothing to do with them, it's all down to Pokernews - someone somewhere is telling porkies!!!!

"Dear Player,

Thank you for contacting WingowsPoker, your concerns are very important to us.

Regarding your inquiry, the Pokernews tournament is been handle by PokerNews, they use our site to make the tournaments. We do not have any authority on any change that they make. Please contact your affiliate manager for more information. We apologize for any inconveniences this might have caused you.

Please feel free to contact us any time. It is always a pleasure to assist you.

Hi Guys

The original tournament was postponed due to human error from our tournament director which was not done purposly...

The reason we decided to open this tournament to all the players that qualify is because you can see here from the response that very few players knew about the tournament...
If we dont open the tournament, there would be 50 - 75 players complaining and that proves to me that the communication was a little off for the last tournament...

We have learned from our mistake and I assure you that it will not happen again for future events...Please also accept our full apologies on the last tournament being canceled.

Our decision is final that we are opening it to all quaifying players on the 11th and I wish you all the very best of luck in the tournament....

Feel free to contact me on any other arrising issues that you may have and Ill be more than happy to help....

PLease also remember that we take our players very seriously and are working hands on with affiliates and players to make the playing experience at Wingowspoker as good as possible...

I again thank you all for choosing Wingowspoker

So those players who play 100 raked hands now will qualify for the game on 11th and 25th, while those of us who understood and acted on the clear communication that was there before (on the Pokernews website) will have to play our raked hands again to qualify on 25th? That doesn't seem very fair either!!!

I don't know what communication you think you were missing before, but it seemed pretty clear to me and I followed the instructions and am now being penalised for that!!!

Ok everybody - please lets let this die. Reason is not going to win here. Colin has indicated the decision is final. All we are doing now is drawing further un-needed attention to the freeroll.

This was my first experience with Poker News and its freerolls. It has been a fun ride. My Wingows initial deposit bonus was f**ked up. The freeroll tournament was cancelled. I've learned a lot about what customer support shouldn't be.

Hey Guys

Due to the fact that Wingowspoker was at fault in the mix up of the last tournament, we have decided to hold a special tournament just for the 23 players that were registered..

We will host and sponsor this freeroll after the final Pokenrews cup freeroll as an official apology for the mix up with the last tournament

Best Regards
