For those of you who think there is skill to tournament poker - not much!
An 18 year old just won the World Series of Poker - Europe. One of the key hands was when Q/7 suited, under the gun snapped A/J. Luck or skill.
A/J made three Aces (Annie Duke)
If skill was involved, wouldn't a Helmuth, Chan, Ivey or any of a dozen of the other so called "tournament poker pro's" have won or at least been at the final table. (like Tiger Woods wins or places so high in golf so often)
The vast majority of poker tournament pro's keep themselves broke through their personal "habits" and mismanagement of their funds and personal lives.
Why make "hero's" out of them. Remember, Stuie Ungar died broke, divorced, a drug addict.
Tournament Poker is knowing what a "coin flip" is, position, and luck.
To win a tournament(s), the "secret" is to hold on to your chips long enough to give yourself a chance to win the last 5 or 6 "all in" situations (coin flips).
Most all of the "tournament stars" are major "go offs" in cash games. (not all of them)
The real skill in poker is in cash games.
Money management, knowing the range of hands the other players may have, decisions on when to quit, whether winner or losers, call for more skill than tournament poker.
If a cash player desires to play again, they have to know how to manage their money and their personal lives.
This is not true with tournament poker players.
Tournament poker is a "house" game, designed for "action junkies".
In the long run, the "house wins".

Holy Cow! I keep getting beaten by people from the Nordic countries when I play online. I guess it's not surprising if this the kind of prodigious talent they sporn! And only 19 unbelievable, I am sure this will be a good thing for womens poker and attract lots of new players, which will definately be a good thing. A more even spread of the sexes would make poker more fun for everybody...
