It only happens because women always insist on ruining mens only clubs and events. About time they got some of their own medicine...

Oh MillyB grow up. Women don't INSIST on ruining men only clubs and events because women are SMART enough to know that ummmm let's see they aren't MEN! So why would they INSIST on going to a MEN ONLY club or a MEN ONLY event.

If you are trying to refer to POKER in general, well I'm afraid dear you are sadly mistaken when you try to refer to it as a MEN only event. Come out of the dark ages...it's ok the light won't melt you!

As for your article Tina; I'm one of those women that don't have a problem playing with men as a matter of fact I'd probably PREFER it......HOWEVER, with that said, if I CHOOSE to play in a ladies tournament than I just want to play with LADIES. Period. End of story.

Jose Conseco and those other men ought to be ashamed of themselves.....if I saw them playing in the ladies event I wouldn't be amused by them I'd actually feel embarrassed for them.

I guess that's what happens to men when they lose their b*lls.....they have to resort to playing ladies only events and they don't even feel one lick of embarrassment about it. Perhaps all of the ladies should feel sorry for them as I'm sure it's a pretty traumatic experience to be a BALL-LESS man!!!

I too am not afraid to play against men. In fact I play mixed events as well as ladies events. The main reason I play ladies events is to help to cultivate more women in the game. I started playing poker in ladies events. I probably would never have played in a casino had it not been for the ladies events. Because of that I see the great need for them. I want more women to play poker......I want to see them in larger numbers.

During this particular event most of the women there weren't afraid to play these 6 guys. But there were a few that were there for the comraderie of women. They are newer to the game and had hoped to feel safe. It's kind of hard to feel safe in the presence of a Mammoth like Canseco. It truely was an unfortunate mess.

Most of the men seemed apologetic once they realized how the women truely felt and what womens only events mean to them. I even overheard one of them say that the whole experience had been bittersweet. He was sorry he'd played....yet he really enjoyed the women. Go figure.

Great article Tina....Very well written.....I love the "member idea" and I was wondering if any men have played in the past WSOP Ladies Events and if not how have they managed to prevent this?.....Something that needs to be looked into one way or another......

I find it truly sad these men decided to play this event. If they allow 50+, employee tourneys, etc., then they can allow women's events. If the men are that bored give them a Men's event simultaneously. I feel really bad for the women who paid for a women's only event and did not get what they paid for. Hmmm.. wonder if they would give a refund. The women who they took out must feel terribly cheated. I think this incident will hurt attendance to these events in the future. These events attract many newbies, but many experienced players also, none of which were there to play a mixed event. They have those ya know.

The more new players we can get to the tables where they will gain live experiences and confidence, the better poker will be for everyone. Why try to ruin that? Shame on those men.

Thank you for writing this article to point out these men insisting on being included in the Women's Only Event. It's not like there are not plenty of other tournaments they can participate in but to single out the Women's Event to enter is apalling. Do they not want women to play poker? It is a good way to ease them into not only playing poker but tournament play. Objecting to an occasional women's tournament is a joke. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Very well written article Tina. I am one of those ladies who would have never thought about playing in tournaments until I had played in a ladies only LIPS tournament. That tourny alone gave me the confience that I much needed in order to venture into other ones. And it is a shame that these "boys" took that away from some of the women there. What is wrong with men wanting women to become more comfortable with their poker game. The way I see it is that this is one way to bring more players to the game and in turn more money to players pockets.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with the "...... only events" at the WSOP next year if "boys" like Jose Conseco continue with their antagonisms. Will Harrah's and the WSOP have to eliminate those tournaments? If it is a matter of discrimination then I believe that the WSOP will have to do something different.

As for those "boys" that entered SHAME SHAME on them!!!

Great article... and I agree... the existence of ladies tournaments was what encouraged me to start playing poker. If men want men only tournaments... I reckon they should go ahead... go to the time and trouble of organizing a 'men only' tournament... leave us ladies alone... and let's give kudos to the women who have worked long and hard to promote women's poker!

Great article Tina! It is such a shame that a few stupid men have to try and ruin things for the ladies. Many of us feel comfortable playing with men, however, men should not be entering ladies only events. I agree with your statements about them being bullies. They only went there to try to intimidate the women. The are sad excuses for real men. Jose and the others should be very ashamed of themselves.

I too am a woman that prefers to play in mixed events and feel that we should not lose sight of the fact that a woman did indeed win the tournament. Remember that the only reason a woman has not yet won the main event is because they are such a huge minority. Just as these men were a minority in the ladies event. If more women were to play in mixed events more women would be winning major mixed tournaments. Just as there are odds to winning a hand in poker there are odds to winning an event. If women are only 2% of the field, the odds are that a woman will not win the event. I say more women should enter mixed events and kick these guys in the butt!!!!

I agree Kos, but many women need the avenue to start somewhere. These events bring in the newbies and teach them the ropes and allow them to become more confident at live tables. Even women pros, everyone starts somewhere.

The guys playing in the event was just tasteless.

Plus the bottom line is.. these women did not get what they paid for. I play mixed events. If I would have been there and paid for a woe and got a mixed, I'd be pissed.
