i plan to play a live tournament for the first in a casino,i was wondering about how players follow the size of the pot in a casino, all i can think of is to add the total as players make bets,is this right, also any tips on stacking chips,

You don't have to be exact on pot size. Just follow the bets and get a general total.
Chip stacking is individual preference. But do remember that your largest denomination chips must be visible. That helps others to estimate your stack ( and you theirs) without requiring a count.
Good luck to you. After a couple, you'll feel like an old pro at it.
