I know all about Chris Ferguson's online bankroll experiment so I decided to do my own online test. I had $1 on PokerStars yesterday. With that, I played in a $0.50 MTT and won $3+. Today, I played in 3 $1 SNG's, cashing in 2/3. I then played in a $3 SNG to take that $1 to $20.74. I'm done for tonight but I'll post the progress of growing this BR into something respectable.
Wish me luck.

Well, experiment is over....went down the tubes last night. Bad beat after bad beat, then I pressed a little and bingo-bango, $$$$ gone. Looks like I'll have to grow a bankroll the old fashioned way, make a deposit.

Yestereday I played 5 one table SnG's and bubbled each one. Today I played 3 and cashed in 2, both second place.
Dave, what name do you play under on stars? Which SnG's were you playing?

Pessimistic Optimism is the best I can muster.

I play under Davega on Stars. I'm not on right now though. Trying to eat and type.

I don't know the answers to those questions. Sometimes it seems like only you (Lefti) and I are allowed to post.

I'd just like to chip in and give my own simmilar experience and ALSO help dispell the rumours about sites not letting you hit flops etc if you don't make deposits.
I had only 98 FPP's left in my Pokerstars account from a $250 deposit. I used 70 FPP's to play a ten handed SNG that gave the winner entrance to the Sunday Hundred Grand. I won. I unregistered from The Sunday Hundred Grand and you get granted 11 Tournament Dollars. I used these to play a $4 + .40 180 plyr Turbo SNG. I came in 3rd and won around $80. I then played in another same tournament and came 1st and won $217. I coninued playing the same low buy-in SNG Turbos and made my bankroll up to over $500. All of this from 70 FPP's!!!
Sadly my ring game sucked back then and I used the the $500 to play in the $1 / .50 games and lost the lot in 2 hrs! I found out I was WAY TO LOOSE for online poker.
An ASIDE - This is because I began playing in the ONLY casino in South Korea (I teach English here) with NLHE. It later dawned on me that them being the only 4 poker tables in THE ENTIRE COUNTRY, a lot of the regulars were probably BLOODY GOOD players and could afford to be loose agg because they could read scared money tighties like I was back then so well. Half of them I later found out were really rich buiness men too so didn't care if they lost their $500 buy-in at the $2/$5 table, whereas it was my entire BR for the month! Man you had to pay an average of $35 just to see a flop and most of them were initial raising with hands like T9 os all the time.... LOL Once it was $50 to go and out of frustration I called with A9s... Flop came A9Q raibow.... Guy raised me all in. After about 4 minutes after which he called TIME I decided he MUST have AQ, he'd be nuts to go all in with anything else with that flop. So I folded. He laughed and flipped over 63 os and shouted NATURAL!!! Turns out this was ajoke as he and his tabe buddies play a lot of bacqarat where this is the BEST HAND..... any hand that has a 6 and adds up to nine! They were pure gamblers and could see that I cared about my money... Wish I'd have called though.... ASIDE OVER
Anyway I soon realised after loosing my entire bankroll in hours on pokerstars several times that winning online in RING GAMES = TIGHT AGG POKER.
No point bluffing as the rock gardens wont call if they have no cards and if they do call - you're dead! ABC is the way to go online......
But tourny is another thing altogether.....
Anyway I have since turned a remaining $1.98 into over $200 starting playing in a $1 + .10 180 plr tounry and came in the money and gradually played more SNG's at increasing stakes.
Now the site would not allow me to do that if they wanted me to re-deposit would they!

This is not said anywhere in this thread. I didn't mean anything about Stars not letting me win. I just meant I lost my small BR so I had to redeposit.
Good story about the Korean card room. Like you said, you need to know a lot of outside information to properly assess a game.

I know it wasn't said in this thread but many threads have a couple of posters who are convinced that Pokerstars is corrupt for some odd reason or another... that is what I was reffering to....

I guess this thread is old — but make a deposit and try again! I started my own Chris Ferguson challenge back in January with $280 (why such a weird amount? read my blog at ... I've been working on it for five months and I'm up to $4900 so far. Technically I guess you have to start at zero and play the freerolls, but why not make a small deposit unless you're trying to prove a point? The goal is $10,000 but if I make it to $12,000 I'm shipping a $500 donation to Chris' favorite charity. Wish me luck, I've made good progress so far but I'm taking nothing for granted!
