To qualify for the freerolls, a player has to play a varying amount of games (depending on the freeroll). I was down to $32 so I was needing to catch a break so that I wouldn't have to deposit. I lost the 1st $16 tourney but won the 2nd for $150. Now qualifying for the freerolls will be no problem. Even though I won that tourney, I still hate trying to qualify for POKER tournaments on a site that isn't real poker.
Anybody having good luck at Duplicate?

I have earnt my 100 points, but am not able to play unless I deposit $50, which I am not prepared to do - why will I not deposit?
My account has sufficient funds in it for my needs, I have no need to deposit extra, but more importantly, if I win, there is no means of withdrawing winnings - the only method of withdrawal they offer is a USD cheque - as I'm not in the USA, Bank Charges mean that any cheque I receive in USD will literally not be worth the paper it is written on.
Duplicate are promising further means of withdrawal soon, but that has been promised since they launched and still no sign of it.

Do you still play on Duplicate Dave?
What kind of volume do you see there?
How is the play?

I play there VERY rarely. I only play to qualify for the freerolls. It is pure luck of the draw. This last tourney, I had 4/6 players sitting out (absent) on my table. Sure, you can't lose much on your losing hands but you can't win anything on your winning hands either. A sit out actually made the Final 6. Personally, I'd never recommend Duplicate to a poker player.

2 more questions... (I'm trying to see if this is worth pursuing)
Do you have to make a deposit between each freeroll in order to qualify?
Have you taken any money off of the site?
Thx Dave.

I don't think that you have to deposit between each freeroll, but you do have to earn 100 bonus points (which means playing $100 worth) between each.
I haven't taken money off because of the above. There is a certain amount of skill involved to put yourself into position in the freerolls, but table draw is the most important thing. When you lose because you DIDN'T go all in preflop with 7-2o but the guy in last did because it was the only way to win....you can't tell me this is skill.

I have deposited with Duplicate a number of times, but couldn't get into the last freeroll, despite having earnt the 100 points - I think you do have to deposit between every freeroll.
I wouldn't mind depositing if it was possible to withdraw - which you cannot outside the US.

I on the one hand don't like the format at Duplicate Poker at all...it isn't the same set of skills needed as in a regular holdem trny. BUT, if you do happen to master the skills needed, there is the opportunity for lots of cash! I personally withdraw regularly ($650 so far this month, with a $250 profit still on site)
With that said, the WSOP freeroll format really sucks. Someone from pokernews needs to contact them and have it changed. As Dave said, a no show sitout managed to make it to the final table. That is ludicrous!! Have Duplicate set it up so that round 1 nobody playing is eliminated. If a no show hasn't logged in to play by then, ELIMINATE THEM!!!
By virtue of having the no show at the finals, if the players in the group lose a lot of chips with a good hand, the no show vaults to the lead, thus taking points away from those who are there and actually competing. In effect, the no show could very well have won the whole thing! (actually came in third i believe!!)
In actuality, the no show absolutely, 100% cost me the trny. Not to take anything away from the winner, but I was a victim of circumstances out of my control. It just didn't matter how well I played...and that's just not right.

So, somebody call Duplicate...TODAY!!!... and have the situation rectified. Then perhaps the next trnys can be played on equal footing

I also take nothing away from the winner or any of the finalists, other than the sit out. Sheepodog beat all players that were actually present but gets nothing. Maybe next month Sheepodog, unless I can figure out a way to capitalize myself.

Here's a portion of an email I received today from Duplicate about the sit-outs.....
Dear David,
If a player is not logged into the tournament lobby 15 minutes prior he will not be seated.
Some players think this is a good strategy ... not to play the first round and they are actually there. We cannot control this. And we do not believe it is ultimately a good one.
We have plans for the future to try and address this issue in a number of different ways so please let us know how you like the changes when we implement them.
For those few of us that have been playing these freerolls, we know that this is completely wrong. 61 players were signed up, 61 were seated, and around 10 were actually there.
Congrats bigmvp on the win. I could only manage a 2nd against one of two the sit outs that made the finals to lose the tie-breaker.
