World First in South Africa

Event 2 at this years South African Open was the PL Omaha High with R3500 entry. (500 US)
All was going well considering this was my 3rd time playing this version of poker.
Then two things happened to change my poker life....
Tony G sat at my table, commenting on my impressive stack, he shook my hand and made my professional player status official.
Then we proceeded to anti up for the next hand, YES ANTI UP, for the first time in poker tournaments Pot Limit Omaha played with Anties.
Something that may have been done by mistake turned out to actually improve the game.
So there you go a world first in poker, oh another world first is that Tony G was dealt 4 of a kind soon after in the PLO. Although a terrible starting hand he was quite impressed with his 4444 and he entertained us all with the odds of being dealt that hand.
Just for the record Tony finished 5th & my goodself 4th in the PLO.

While l`m here l had better mention the Main Event partly as there were 5 Aussies there, yours truly took out Tony G in the first 10 minutes by defending my BB with 75 suited & hitting the flush, when you ask? on the river of course....what better way to take out a fellow Aussie. OY OY OY.
Bubbled final table, made 9th from 175 starters.

Monte Casino & Poker Media were great, & so were the safaris organised by Poker Time, playing with Lion Cubs on your day off was certainly a new experience, not to mention copious amounts of Sambuca at the African Drum night.

Well this was my first post, if you don`t like it....ask yourself....have you posted

Enjoy your Poker all
Den.

Hi Dennis,

Are you bragging about yourself or is Jennifer boosting your ego? Truth is you did an amazing job in South Africa. One of the best poker performances one will ever see, absolutely stunning.

While swimming with Tong G he told me he would be out very quickly and sure enough 10 minutes was all it took you. How great it is to have the balls to defend your blind like you did. Best thing is that this happen on the main table so it is televised and will be shown over and over increasing your image which is well deserved. You are a force to be feared.

You made quite a name for yourself in South Africa one can tell as you were always surrounded by the very friendly people there. I'm sure that you are already preparing for next year looking forward to see the many friends that you and your lovely & beautiful wife made there. I was in heaven there and I know you were beyond, surely feeling nothing but bliss. You have to still be riding high and hopefully will never come down.

The bad thing with your 4th in omaha was that you missed the fantastic dinner arranged by PokerTime in town because you were still playing. I was part of Team PokerNews to whom I never heard from and feel so very lucking that Kevin from PokerTime took me under his wings as he done making me feel very special. Being invited to that dinner, meeting & sitting there with all of PokerTime executives will be a lifelong memory held with great fondness.

Dennis good luck this year and will see you both this July in Vegas, Ken

MESSAGE TO DAVEGA,

I pride myself on doing the extra's to be good and one way is to keep tabs on my oppondents. I find it interesting to find out your position here at PokerNews after keeping tabs on you at Duplicate. I don't suppose that you have any pull but maybe a little. After loosing sleep a couple nights I also decided to email support at Duplicate after experiencing the worst tourney ever Sunday. I was unhappy with reply but expected nothing more.

Unless they fix the problem of sit-outs next trip tourney I will be forced to not play a hand as not to get behind the sit-outs. My seat had a four way tie for 1st with me being 5th 60 points behind after loosing the first hand. Robyroby who was there and tied in points @ 7940 was eliminated. I wondered if when he hovered over icon to see seat position if it showed him in 4th or tied. I guess I will find out because being tied will be the position I will find myself in next time by not playing a hand. If icon shows tie (all 1) before final hand but after hand player who shows up is elimated as was the case, it is simply wrong. I want to play poker not just sit there hoping to advance.

With present way it is not beyond belief for a sit out to win. As you know one was close only 1 point behind.

I wondered why rules posted said 24 hour cutoff period but yet players went from 58 to 61 final day.

Where was PokerNews in South Africa? No one was at airport to pick me up as posted. No goody bag was at hotel waiting for me as posted. Took four days before I found out breakfast was included and felt like a beggar everytime I had to ask for lunch or dinner vouchers which were suppost to be included in goody bag that finally showed up.

No welcoming party as posted and I was cut-off after one drink at closing gala because media spent their funds celebrating their winner with their bottles.

All in all South Africa was a excellent time and looking very much forward to next year. The people were great there and I did make alot of friends. They played a very friendly poker game making it alot of fun.

PokerTime management were very special and treated me the same.

A very special thanks to Kevin from PokerTime. I would like to add Raymond Rahme to the highest list possible, he is a remarkable individual. I was sitting at main table/TV table along with him when I got rivered by A-10 beating my A-Q.

As for MediaPoker I was impressed and Jonathan & Oliver did a superb job.
