World Series? Why not just flip coins

Your opinion

Why not just flip coins and see who eliminates who for the world series? Odd or Even - about the same skill involved.

Someone will win out if coin flips were involved (call the flop, red or black) - or does the public REALLY think there is a skill to poker tournaments.

I still believe- Poker tournaments are for suckers - 10% house drop (or more) 25% taxes (or more) plus tokes - then there are the few winners gathering most all the tournament money (with some blowing off in the "pit") and taking that money out of poker - all this means the "poker world players money pool" is constantly shrinking.

This current (temporary) ocean of poker players may be larger than in the past, but with all the "teams" in tournament poker, on line cheating scandals, and poker tournaments without sponsors. it is just a matter of time until the poker world money shrinks.

In the "old days" there were about 200-300 "die hard (professional - hah)" tournament players, and it did not take long for the "house" to get the money.

Now in the new poker "boom" that number of tournament poker players ("pro's")is only 500 to 700 (just check the $10K buy ins after the World Series and see if the WPT survives.)

Just Curious - anyone see the poker world growing without sponsors?

Tournament Poker Players (suckers) - just someone trying to hit the lottery! (with 98% of tournament poker players blowing their dough - including a lot of the "champs")

What do you think? Yes

The money wont shrink, it may go down some years, but its not gonna go on downswing
and would you honestly sit here and complain about taxes if you just won $9million ?

without sponsors?
you living under a rock ?

EDIT*
Record-setting WSOP
The 2008 World Series of Poker overall was bigger and better than ever.

Harrah's has released a list of the records set, which include the most overall player entries (58,720; old record 54,288 in 2007); overall prize pool ($180,676,248; old record $159,796,218 in 2007); 118 different countries (old record: 87); and entries in a non-Main Event tourney (3,929 in Event #2, $1,500 NLHE).

The record that stands out the most is the amount of countries represented. Poker is truly a global game now with growth expected to continue worldwide.

I believe that people play the game partly for the satisfaction as well as the winnings. Otherwise what's the point of playing poker (or gambling for that matter) if there wasn't any satisfaction?

If they were only in it for the money and were depending on a lucky coin flip, then I'm sure there would be better ways of dumping their $10k entree fee on various other gambling structures no?

I totally agree. I also think Assistanc3 is completely off base in his response.

That's what I think.

Thank you.

Tounament can get really frustrating because of all those "suckers" ( this was the word first used, it is not mine ). This a kind of polution of the game and this polution can compete against skills because "suckers" are outnumbering by far the "skilled" players. This is gonna back fire to poker, or at least to NLHT.

When I say skilled I do not want to talk about "super skilled" like all the Matusow, Poker brat, Hansen, Poker kid, Ivey etc... Those can sometimes survive and eventually get to the final table.

What some evidence? Look at the NLHT tournaments, final tables are with a lot of unknown "pros", Pros you ll find broke in few years.

Take a game of Horse, final tables are full of pros, that have been pros for a long time and will continue to be.

NLHT tournament as it is today won t last long and will go back to "almost" where it was few years ago and this will be good for the game and for the players. at least I hope for it.

tell u what tournament players aren't suckers i think u got it all wrong. u know how much skill is involved in a tournament poker game u got to have patience, manage ur stack, intuition all the above. do u play cash games, i think cash games give u more swings in ur bankroll than anything. The sucker is one doesnt know the game and if u dont like tournaments well u can connect the dots

Do you just randomly logon to Poker forums to show your (be nice). I agree there are many many coin flips involved and cards are sucked out way to often. Why don't you start asking yourself questions like: Why did I have all of my chips in? What am I playing against? You get the idea, I hope. The luck comes down to the end when you are trying to win. Skill gets you to the money and skill/luck wins.

What matters most is how well you walk through the fire.
