I played my first ring game. It was $.10/.25 on Stars. I ended up $18. I have never seen anything like it. There were hands with 9 to the flop. You better have a hand at this level. People rarely fold any draw.

You are right. At this level, it is strictly ABC poker. Bluffs are simply donations.
On a side note, this was really your 1st ring game?? Nice job.

Just another KITNs. You'll get used to them.

I played a ring game a couple of years ago and donked off $50 in a session. I decided to stay away from them. It was before I realized that bluffing and chasing gutshots all the time was the wrong way to play. Remember when you thought top pair could never lose. I traditionally play low SNGs. I have been out of it for awhile. I am trying to build my bankroll and then move on to low MTTs and higher stakes SNGs. My biggest problem right now is putting people on hands.

what i find helpful is not trying to put people on an exact hand. sometimes you can but most of the time its an educated guess. try instead to put people on a range of hands...
for example Player A will only raise from early position w/ AQ+ or any pocket pair. when he gets in position, however, he will raise suited connectors and any two face cards as well. you can make these assumptions after just a few showdowns. again this isn't exact info but helps greatly.
after those opinions are formed you can decide whether the "story" he is telling you fits his hand range and so on. this is only the first step of analysis but its the most important as it will set the tone for the decisions you make on later streets.
also, feel free to ignore everything i just said. esp. at low limits. just play ABC poker and you will in.

I agree, it seems like at the low level ring games (even tournaments) bluffs & semi-bluffs don't seem to be effective.
I liken it to what Dave said: "Bluffs are simply donations."
That's been my experience but I usually stay away from ring games as I strictly play tournaments.
Anybody else have any words of wisdom about ring games? I prefer tourneys, anybody prefer ring games over tourneys? If so, how come?
"Poker... I hardly even know her!"

I prefer tournies and my results at ring games disqualify me from giving any advise.

Though I do Like to play tourneys when I can, I play a lot of lo level cash games.
Your right they are tough and bluffing should be very infrequent and if you do be prepared to go A.I.
I have been profitable in the long run by playing super tight and rarely bluffing.
I like them because of the obvious, Instantly in and out, no waiting for a time, Log-on play...log-off and go.
Super Donks at the table?....Just change tables.

Because it's a dude drinking piss with a straw I would guess. To be quite honest, I don't particularly enjoy it either.

Way to purposely miss the point. It's plain obvious why someone would ask you to change the avatar. It's disgusting and apparently offensive to some.
Are you just looking for an argument again?

i was effing with him. merely playing dumb until someone came forward to state the obvious.
in fact, i wouldn't have even replied to yours if you hadn't mentioned the fact that you didn't enjoy it either. my next thought was, "do we really create our avatars for other user's enjoyment?" That is why I left the comment I did.
No, I am not looking for an argument.
Also, My original reply to ezee8 was going to be..."With all due respect...you should consider getting a picture." Then I figured that would have been offensive.
