By now all have heard of the hundreds of folks left out on playing in Day1D... What most should be thinking about is how mismanaged Harrahs/Rio/WSOP have done to the tournament. Look at the main event.. The starting stack is now 30,000 although the blinds/antes didnt adequately adjust to the starting stack. Due to "slow turnout" of the first two days, they decide to only play 4 levels. Then due to "higher expected" turnout, they decide to play 5 levels on the next two days.. Then due to potentially having a problem with a Day2B turnout, they drop the number of players playing in Day1D.... How ridiculous can one get? While whomever makes these near sighted decisions may think they're accomodating folks, in reality you're killing the tournament and its integrity. For instance, the tournamnet is advertised as having 3000 folks for each day with 5 levels of play. Why didnt they just do this from the start (albeit leaving the starting stack and blinds/antes where they've always been)? This is the same basic issue as the decision to make a november final table.... All of these so-called changes not only are "not improving" the experience and brand name of the WSOP, they are destroying over 40 years (and counting) of pure poker playing for the benefit of the dollar sign... and since they lost a couple million dollars due to the lost revenue of a couple hundred players not being able to play, everyone loses... sad day in the world of poker..

Regarding the fact that about 500 players couldn't enter the event due to day 1d reaching it's capacity .. They get no sympathy from me.
4 frickin' days and half the field feels the need to wait for the last chance to register.

How about everybody not waiting for Day1d to register? I was at the Rio yesterday and it seems a lot of people couldn't register because the room was at maximum capacity. How about a bit of discipline? If this is so important for players to play the most expensive Donkfest in the planet why not try to register the first day?

wait so you are telling me that when people in the "fair" world all wait to the last minute some dont get left behind?
oh and in case you don't remember the World Series was created purely for Media purposes in the first place. what great integrity the WSOP has.
the november nine didn't ruin the Main Event at all. in reality i think it improved on it greatly. it opens poker up for more media attention. it gives the final table much more bargaining power when it comes to signing a "deal." it's poker, the game changes with the turn of every card. did holding the final table hostage for three months make it play out differently? yes, but it would have played out different if Scott Montgomery shows up an hour late. If a dealer change happened one hand earlier or one hand later. The WSOP Main Event is the nuts.
The lesson here is...DONT BE A F*CKING SLACKER! If you want to play then get there, get registered, and don't whine on the last day.
(Oh and hasn't registration been open since like March?)

Wow, not much more for me to add. I love having the delayed final table so I can watch live! After all, half the excitement of watching it is not knowing who would win.

All good comments but you're missing the point... The tournament said 3000 could enter.. then took it away.. the tournament said 5 levels of play.. and then changed it for 2 days out of the four.. Any decently run company would and should be ashamed at how they "manage" their events.. If people want to wait and potentially be out due to non-space, that's fine and their problem... Having the rules changed on them constantly isn't their problem - its' the tourneys and who's running (or not running) the event...

All good points. I think there is room for improvement as well. I'm not a huge fan of the final table being delayed until November but can see some of the benefits.
What I did like was the 2007 main event in that they had the final table live on pay per view. Coverage started at noon...Every hand, every break, reporting, stats, stories in between. Didn't end until around 4:30 in the morning.
Now because it was live of course they wouldn't show the hole cards, but really that's what made it all the more intense to watch. Trying to put someone on a hand etc. I was on the edge of my seat every time Jerry Yang said....Raise, 2.5 mirron.

haha, mirrion. good stuff.
they showed some of the final tables on the bluff and espn websites this year. it was really cool, although it can be a marathon to watch.
i just dont think OP realizes what it takes to run a series of events with around 600,000 entrants. thats a lot of work and the unexpected will happen every year. personally, i think the world series has done a good job the last few years improving on the previous year's mistakes.
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire.
