PokerNews gets all the poker news, fast! Great story. I know Phil will be so frustrated. He is a big advocate for poker and charities. This shows you the social perception we still battle each day. As poker grows, so does anti-poker.

This also highlights the fractured nature of the poker laws in this state. The District Attorney had previously approved the tournament prior to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Comission shutting it down. There is a grassroots organization created to help legalize poker in Texas called (appropriately)

Thanks for the plug! If we had gotten started earlier, we might have been able to push HB 2715 through committee. Unfortunately our organization has only existed since January.

HB 2715 would have put charity poker in the lawbooks, albeit in bingo halls.

Reps. Chisum and Morrison made sure that HB 2715 never made it out of committee. Rep. Tony Goolsby did his best to move it ahead, with no luck. Poker fans in Chisum and Morrison's districts should do their best to vote them out of office at the next possible opportunity. Texans For Poker will do our best to facilitate this action of course.

It's a shame that the churches won't even allow a poker tournament for a charitable organization as reputable as the Komen. But, you can't really blame them for being afraid of something that might take money out of the collection pot.
