2009 WSOP: Day 1D Advance Sellout Leaves Hundreds Out of Main Event

The gambling nature of poker players, betting that despite waiting until the last minute to register for the 2009 World Series of Poker’s Main Event, came back to bite them on Monday as several hundred players were shut out of the final Day 1d session once the WSOP announced a sellout. The angry players, including several recognizable, “name” players, demanded accommodation despite the declared lack of space at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, where the event was played, and despite an official announcement that its official – and then extended -- occupancy of some 2,809 players for...

After the annoucement that no more players would be accepted, I personally know of at least 2 players, one pro, one a brother of a prominent australian pro, that got in....do I begrudge them, no. Am I angry with harrahs....100%, what a sham!!! This has been verfied fully and is not a rumour or assumption. Disgusting!!

Special treatment is definitely wrong. But that also goes to those who waited until the last minute, then griped they couldn't play. You knew the rules and the limits. You had months to pre-register, weeks to complete the paperwork, days 1a b or c to participate before the last. Like seats at a world title fight or a football Supre Bowl or a new i-phone, when they're gone they're gone. Too bad. Next time plan ahead better...

Well in the history of the world series, they never shut out anybody, and if someone wants to do their best to satellite in, thats their choice...and my point is the double standard, so do me a favour, save the lecture, it falls on deaf ears.

The alleged special treatment is horrible, but I have no problem with how Harrah's handled the lack of seating on Day 1D. Folks were well aware that 1D was the consensus preferred starting day and that 1A-C were under utilized. Guaranteed you won't see this repeated next year!

My understanding is that they had all been assured the previous day that NOBODY would be cut out. If there was a hard and fast ceiling number, it should have been published well in advance.

Jeffrey Pollack was made aware by me on a number of players who were refused and then got in....so I am Publically saying that either he is lying or members of his staff are lying to him.
So operational reasons may of been a problem, but regardless of some prominent professional been refused.
Many got in. Why do I know this? I was with 2 of the people who were very upset about not getting in, and then later I found out they were both in.

So no begruding those players, but the RIO and Pollack are not being truthful and I am sure he wont be " heart broken" when he gets his fat bonus!!
