The Canadian Open Poker Championship is the Canadian Poker Tour's premium event series. Many of the world most well known players have attended since the inaugural COPC in 2006; Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Laak, Greg Muller, Gavin Smith, Brad Booth, Joe Hachem, Mel Judah, Huck Seed, Jennifer Tilly, Nenad Medic, Steve Pual Ambrose, Jeff Madsen, Mike Matusow.....the list goes on and on.
Both Joe Hachem and Phil Hellmuth have been quoted as saying the Heads Up event is the best structure available. 2 out of 3, 10k starting stacks and 20 minute levels. Bouts have gone from 30 minutes to over 8 hours. The field is capped at 128 players and open to anyone.
Aside from the $5000 HU Championship, events have been added each year so that everyone has a chance to participate, regardless of bankroll. Fields have always been maxed out to casino capacity. This year, in an almost unprecedented agreement, the CPT has been able to bring together 3 competing casinos to host the largest series of events ever held on Canadian soil. 13 events including a few super sats will be held over 11 days to create an estimated $3.5 Million dollars prize pool available to players.
Buy ins range from $200-$2200. The first ever "official" Canadian Ladies Championship will also be included in this series, hosted in a joint effort with the LIPS tour. In addition to the tournaments, Calgary is well known for spreading some of the highest cash game stakes in Canada. There will be large NL Hold'em and the biggest game and most popular during the COPC is a $25-$50-$100 Pot Limit Omaha. Pots of up to $100,000 are not uncommon.
Over the entire series, the "Ultimate Players Parties" will be held and shuttles are to be set up between locations and some of these post poker shenanigans. Antonio and the boys have also been quoted in saying these are some of the funnest times in the world.

Hope to see some of you out!
