I was recently asked, "Other than yourself, who would you like to see win the Main Event of the 2011 World Series of Poker?" I said, "I'd like to see someone win who would not only be a great ambassador for poker but who could/would create a positive impact on the growth of poker and the image of the poker world." And I'm talking about a win that would surpass Chris Moneymaker's impact on the game after he won the Main Event in 2003!
Who would that be? I believe an intelligent, likable, talented, and good-looking woman would be the best choice (yes -- even better...

This is the nature of poker media, whether it's magazines, news sites or podcasts. Everyone is either is explicitly sponsored by poker sites or casinos, or else is far too cozy with advertisers. Apparently no wall between editorial and advertising/marketing, as there should be in any legit news source. Poker media can't expect to be taken seriously by the wider public until they are willing to abide by slightly more stringent ethical standards when it comes to this sort of thing--or at minimum to try to maintain a facade of objectivity.
The rare exceptions are a handful of blogs and the now-dead Poker Beat (with the exception of Jess Welman's unwillingness to say anything critical of Bluff advertisers--which didn't, it must be said, stop her from being the most insightful commentator that show had).
