April 15, 2011, will come to be known as Black Friday in the poker community. The online poker world that we have become used to over the past decade is forever changed.
The indictments revealed by the U.S. Southern District of New York against the owners of PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker are serious. The short-term outlook for online poker is grim.
PokerStars already has stopped serving the U.S. market. I expect Full Tilt Poker and probably Absolute Poker to follow. I would not expect these sites to serve the U.S. market again until after online poker is officially...
Pathetic. I am so disgusted by the way our government has handled online gaming since the beginning. If I had the option I would leave the country until they pulled their heads out and started regulating things properly like England has been doing for over a decade. We still use a standard unit of measurement instead of metrics. Some wireless carriers in the US still have CDMA while virtually everyone in the world uses only GSM. At the same time we strip away one freedom at a time. What a great country this USED to be. And the "terrorists" just keep winning.

If you work backwards from " It,s all about money" then you can figure every situation out. There are monetary reasons behind every war, every presidential assasinations ( Lincoln, Garfield, Kennedy and an attempt on Andrew Jackson), just like there is with this. I'll bet you a life time worth of river suck outs that the banks are behind this as well.

The only thing i am sure about is that the timing of the indicments will help a lot caesars, party gaming etc to increase their share of the market. Is that a coincidence? I dont think so

It the same old story that happened with the porn 10+ years ago. Of Porn is not "nice" lets make it a law (everyone will follow the law, right!).
It took the porn industry couple of month (if that long) to move all their online business overseas. They moved all the workers, profits and so on....
The government only realized after few month that the "not nice" porn is still in every american home but this time without paying taxes, salaries, hosting fee and what ever money that goes around that industry. But wait a minute every one should follow the LAW, Damn bustards.
In 2006 Vegas "guys" started to feel the hit of the "online" gaming, Dammit what should we do, Hmmm.. we can invest lots of money in online or wait there is a cheaper way! Let make it illegal and then everyone will still come to our casino's....The rest you already know.
P.s. Im not sure about deposits and withdrawals but you can login and play cash game using any VPN software that give you none U.S ip.

Sent to TN senator, and have now started to filter through the politicians in favor of taking our money.
I am saddened that the government has decided to take my initial investment and use it to help their cause of not having to REALLY balance the budget!
You and your cohorts have all but stolen millions of dollars from the very people you claim you are protecting from internet gambling. And by doing this, you hurt who?
I will not wait for the time that an IRS agent stands next to me at the casino slot machine waiting for my initial 17 cents to pop out 34 cents, then have him grab my arm and state I can not play another penny til the government gets 1/2 cent.
So with this said I will make my new full time job, advising others how to vote in upcoming elections by using all media available to me.
The good people in the United States are tolerent of the politicians they vote in, and not ignorant enough to believe what politicians say relly means anything at all.
The President can talk all day and night about how things are better in this country to those that live this country's life every day and think we are fooled by the words and not the actions.
WE ARE NOT STUPID!
We the people of the United States have proven in the last two years that if we voted you in, we can, and will vote you out in a heartbeat.
Our patience are growing thin and our tolerences are not near what they were just a couple years ago.
We will be expecting from you, proof through the media that you care enough to resolve internet gambling issues without having to rob YOUR VOTERS blind in the process.
Respectfully yours,
Seragato57 (Kevin)

Is it irony that the crackdown came on April 15th, historically known as "Tax Day" in the US? (Although not this year...even more irony)

Alot of inocent people are going to be caught up in this. If any of the sites are involved in illegal activity, what did they think was going to happen? They should be held accountable. Whether the government is being unfair, or overstepping their boundry, is a mattter for the courts. However, if you break the law, you need to be prepared to pay the cosequences. The only thing that matters is that, those people, and organizations, who, in good faith, used these sites in a lawful manner be compensated. Also, those who used these sites illegally be held responsable. There wiil be argueing, law suits, and finger pointing for a long time. In the end people will get hurt, and some of them will be inocent.

In my lifetime Russia went from communist state to democratic state they are still playing poker, is that where we are headed a communist state where a simple hard working man can't sit down and play a little poker. Poker is like buying a car lots of choices have to be made before buying into it.Just like the choices the U.S. government makes when they send our young men and woman off to war don't they get it. Its time to fight for our freedom again like our fore fathers.

This is ridiculous. If the government had legalized online gaming , they would've had another tax source. The poker community needs to rise up and do a grass roots lobbying effort.

No Football, No Poker, High Gas Prices, No Drilling, Middle East Turmoil, High Unemployment, Massive Government Corruption, Central and South America going communist and hooking up with Middle East State sponsors of Terror, Illegal Immigrants and the "La Raza" invasion of America, Debt, Debt, Debt, China owns the U.S., cant smoke a cigarette anywhere, Extremely high taxes on everything, Economy killing government regulations, The Forced Redistribution of Earnings by OUR Government, Gubment sCroul eduMactions-we are not even in the top 15 of EDUCATION anymore, ..........What do I think? I think Obama's America SUCKS! He has made all of these problems MUCH MUCH worse than ever before. It is Obama's Justice Department that did this. Do some research and see what else Obama's Justice Department has done to OUR freedoms since that Manchurian Candidate stole the election. Yeah, stole it. Just like that coward thief Harry Reid stole Nevada! Obama wants complete control of the internet, including taxes and a KILL SWITCH! A KILL SWITCH just like the kind used in Egypt during their so called "uprising." Wake Up People, we are under attack by outside forces and their number one weapon is Barrack Husein Obama, who is spending millions to keep that stupid birth certificate thing CONCEALED.
This whole poker thing is just a symptom of the disease that infects America and threatens to destroy us all.
Do something. Write, call and fax your congressmen and threaten their jobs next election.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
"Gambling is the wagering of money or something of material value (referred to as "the stakes"
on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material goods. Typically, the outcome of the wager is evident within a short period."

This is actually a blessing in disguise and I'll tell you why.
Well did anyone honestly believe that the U.S. Goverment will keep tacking a back seat to a multi-billion dollar a year industry after all the attempts to reach out to the owners of the online poker sites on where the US stands on this issue and after all the bank siezers and treats it still landed on deaf ears, well if the owners of the online poker sites are not smart enough to throw money to the US govement a few times a year just to keep them happy knowing that there bout to wake a sleeping giant and when the giant awakes well see the outcome ''black friday '' all could have been avoided if there were anyone with any street smarts running the online poker sites they would have known that greesin someone with contacts and sick power will be the best bet just keep'em happy and not breathin down there throats RESPECT! witch is obviuos many people lack in..
Lets just think about this online poker is Billion Dollar a year business and there are at least 2 online poker sites that are makin multi-billion's a year FT n PS possiably UB n AP also give or take a billion. But never the less these sites depend on consitant play from the players and they get that from the US players that consist of at least 75%, 75% of the players on there site are from the U.S witch means that if the US players can not play then there business will not survive obvious. The point Im trying to get to is the US govement sat around long enough watching a over sea business making billions n billions of dollars from US citizens and not seeing a dime of it not to mention the countless players that earn 100k n up a year from online poker witch maybe 2% claim taxes if any at all, so another countless of millions of dollars that the US Goverment feels they are loosin out on yearly and well frankly im surprised it took them this long to throw down the hammer and let everyone know that days of taking tens of billions of dollars out of the US pocket will no longer be dealt with in a nice manor.
So expect to hear some wispers in the next comin days n weeks on when the online poker sites that are ligal will be up n running im actually excited knowing that online poker will finally have the proper resources liscences to run a fair poker game just as fair and trusted as playing in a brick n mortol casino. My guess is by next November the US online poker sites will be up n running with the peace of mind knowing ur money is safe n theres no shady deals going on behind anyones back.

The true fact is that President Bush did sign this but while TOUTING BIPARTISANSHIP to a Majority leader Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi! it is the ENTIRE GOVT that has failed us! I DEFINITELY feel I have a right to speak up! As a live and online player! In the last week before this crap happened I won a seat to the WSOP on UB and FT! I am being told "sorry we will not be able to pay you until we get this problem resolved with your govt!" So now I am faced with the strong likelyhood I will miss the WSOP! Unless I get lucky enough to win a live satellite! The govt once again screws me over. I lost my company and had to lay off 80 employees in 2007 as a result of the subprime crisis and found myself with no income. No one wants to hire a former business owner. So I survive playing poker. I lick my wounds and after completing a Chapter 7 corp and personal BK try to rise from the ashes only to have the very people who allege to be trying to "help us" SCREW US OVER! There is no way this is fixed in 60 - 90 days. This will be another drawn out 2 -3 yea process until they figure out how to completely control the internet and our lives in every way! I filed my taxes I paid my taxes! This is TOTALLY WRONG what they are being allowed to do! What we all need to do is send a CLEAR message this coming election and vote out of office EVERY politician in every district that has opposed online gaming PERIOD!!! Wise up people VOTE and know who you are voting for! That is the only way this will ever change!
04-17-2011 13:10
Just an add on when we as players claim poker earns ($5,000 or more) we are able to write off our buy ins from events so I am sure there are very few people based on the fed tax code that would or will owe in the new regulated poker arena that will come. Instead of PS, Fulltilt, UB we will be playing on wsop.com, harrahs.com, wynn.com and etc. The problem is that getting there will be painful! For all of us with $$ out there on these sites we will lose it all. Either they will keep it and blame the govt or the govt will take it and blame the sites. Whether we owned a dime to the govt or not. The sites certainly did but we as players didnt and should not have to pay the price. As far as people commenting on this saying they think 60- 90 days we will see a resolution are just DREAMING. There is one thing the US govt is NOT and that is expedient at anything. This court case will ensue for months and years. The LAWYERS and lawmakers will get ALL the $$ and we will all lose. As far as future LEGAL online gaming sites there is not even one bill in play to make it legal. These bills have to be written and submitted by committee the brought before the government. They got what they wanted $$. The chances of us seeing this died with the exit of Barney Franks and the only reason he was doing anything is Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun gave him a ton of $$ to put up laws about gaming. I live in NH and there have been about 30 or 40 bills brought before the govt and quashed in the last 5 years to legalize gaming 100% in NH and we are further away now than we have ever been. The ONLY way to change this is ALL make a commitment to VOTE and vote out every one of these idiots from office. If they didn't support previous gaming bills FIRE THEM PERIOD! we are 10 million strong PPA! MORE THAN ENOUGH TO sway ANY ELECTION! Elections are mostly decided by 1-3% of the voters.DONT BE LAZY!! VOTE!!! I am proud to say I have not missed an election in 12 years. Not one primary or vote! We need to all band together and fix it!
