Last week, PokerNews offered an in-depth look at the World Series of Poker’s inaugural Main Event Rematches Promotion that’ll be introduced this summer, as well as four matches poker fans will be able to vote on. Beginning earlier this week, the polls were opened, and the race is on to determine which match would garner the most votes to join Phil Hellmuth vs. Johnny Chan (1989 WSOP Rematch) and Chris Moneymaker vs. Sammy Farha (2003 WSOP Rematch) on the card. Here is a look at the four match-ups on the ballot.
Greg Raymer vs. David Williams (2004 WSOP Main Event)
Johnny Chan vs. Erik...
I understand why WSOP\Ceaser's wanted Phil to be part of the event, but putting Phil vs Chan with the option to vote for Chan in the third match was a major mistake. I agree with Chad that one match for Chan in enough. But the one match should not be against Phil Hellmuth.
My guess is Chan vs Siedel would win the if all five options were up for voting. It would be good for the game appeal to a wider audience. My wife does not watch much TV poker outside of John Elway on the Million Dollar Challenge, but she would certainly watch the rematch of the WSOP Rounders made famous. (She also loves new Sieborg song). There is ZERO chance of her watching anything with Hellmuth.
If WSOP needed Phil to participate (for reasons unknown?) they could have Hellmuth vs Negreanu from 2003. It's not the main event, but just call it "The Greatest WSOP Bracelet Battles" .

I don't think it's going to be Chan in two matches. Everyone would like to see Wasika own Gold, but the Raymer/Williams match would offer the most interesting poker.

Fossilman match up would be good but David Williams sucks at poker so I rather watch Chan/Seidel.

I must admit, I though the Gold vs. Wasicka would be the match with the least amount of interest. Based upon comments and Twitter, that certainly isn't the case. I suppose it would be fun to watch Gold on an even playing field with Wasicka, 5 years after his heater came to an end.

I don't know... I think Gold/Wasicka would be interesting poker, but a terribly uninteresting match for fans and for television. For the most part, Jamie Gold really didn't catch on with people the first time around. And Paul Wasicka isn't exactly the life of the party at the table. That matchup does seem to be generating the most chatter, though.

Eric, you were absolutely right and with the proper promotion, ESPN will get a LOT of views for the Seidel vs Chan REMATCH ... especially if they are smart enough to also run the [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGvxrw0nxl4&feature=mh_lolz&list=FLnD4Ly67wAHQ] Seidel video.
