Last week, the World Series of Poker announced a $1 million buy-in tournament to benefit One Drop, an initiative started by Guy Laliberte that focuses on providing access to clean water worldwide. The event will take place during the 2012 WSOP from July 1 through 3 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. We caught up with some of the players at the Rio to get reactions to the announcement.

It now seems Vanessa and Liv Boeree had not heard about the One Drop Million buy in tournament and was asked about a one mirrion tournament without being told of its charitable nature nor details. From Lov Boeree's twitter.
Wow thanks so much for clarifying that. I just went to Liv's twitter and that's totally true! (check her tweets on June 8)
If that was in fact what happened, I'm really really really enraged by PokerNews' amateurish reporting. The article is headlined as the players' reaction to the $1 million One Drop event when in fact Liv expressed her opinion to the $1 million buy-in tourneys in general. In that sense, the article is completely not true, misleading and inaccurate, and it wrongfully makes Liv look like a bad person. As can be seen by some comments, now some people think that Liv is an evil who doesn't care about charity when in fact that is not what she set herself out to be. This article makes me mad. I can almost feel Liv's pain. She probably felt some thing like "WTF! That's totally NOT NOT NOT what I responded to!" The careless reporting began a witch-hunt on an innocent poker player, and I hold Pokernews responsible for it. As an avid reader, I'm highly disappointed and will e-mail Pokernews saying that I'll boycott the website until the site issues a big apology to Liv and clarifies the reporting. If anybody else out there feels my heart too, please do the same. Thank you.

I am a Canadian poker journalist, I have just finished an interview with Guy Laliberte and saying that "there is no way to satellite into the 1 million buy in" is wrong. There WILL BE satellites held.

These events are all fallout from poker's popularity. Any pro arguing against it is - in essence - arguing that poker should be less popular, attract smaller events, and cater to the middle class of poker pros. There is also the stadium poker event for thousands of players being organized. I understand why some poker players are frustrated that these events have buyins outside of their bankrolls, comfort zone, or both (!!
) but the poker world moves with its own momentum, For sure the poker world does not revolve around a few select pros
... The One Drop is a Charity Event ... if you don't have the bankroll to enter, go to a bankroll site (chipme up is the PN workhorse I think
) and get staked. Complaining is not going to stop the event.
