There's so much to talk about today, that we should probably just get right into it. Daniel Negreanu laid out his thoughts on why he didn't play in the Epic Poker League in his recent blog. We've also got some drama surrounding Chino Rheem, and more.
In Case You Missed It
In the latest PokerNews Podcast, we caught up with 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event last woman standing, Erika Moutinho. We discussed her run in the Main Event, how she got into poker, and of course, her recent engagement.
On Day 2 of the Epic Poker League Main Event, the field was whittled down to the final 18...
Daniel Negreanu has the experience to make this kind of call and one of the few players that truly works his "brand" properly in context of both live & online poker stages. With his usual and refreshingly frank observation, it is clear that if he really wants to go world-class with EPIC ... he will book a vacation with Norwegian Cruise Lines in the Mediterranean on their brand new ship: The Norwegian EPIC. That ship is the real deal

I'm down with Negreanu on this one. If he's right about Epic's eventual plan for an on-line poker site, this smells of something foul. Annie Duke is the sister of Howard Lederer, founder of Full Tilt. Who on Earth believes that Howard (or entities he has in his hip pocket) won't eventually gain a piece of Epic and it's on-line poker site? I don't even care about explanations at the moment, I think it smells foul.

The Atlantic Cup, Quad Jacks Conspiracy Radio, Poker Stars lame game show, "Colluding with the Stars".....yeah right.....DN is real careful about what he attaches himself to.

I agree with Negreanu. The Epic Poker League seems copied straight out of the business plan of the PPL in which Chip Reese was involved 5 years ago. That business plan failed as it relied on online sites sponsorship money and unfortunately UIEGA came around as it was having these discussions. Poker has moved on since then - its been overexposed and there is no outstanding unique angle with Epic Poker League, it's just more of the same old same old. The model is unsustainable with what its current funding structure is likely to be - but i guess it may be well funded by FTP. As a spectacle though it certainly isnt the next big thing and as the same mistake FTP made in its marketing the Epic Poker League is geared to a US only audience and has no global appeal certainly to Europeans.

I agree 100% with Daniel. The EPL is just trying to promote itself for a future online poker site. I also don't like Annie Duke involved on it; she is Lederer's sister and as Percival said, he might be getting a piece of it. I prefer sticking to what I know is good and clear, like the WPT and specially PokerStars who has proof to be the best on these tough days.
