When my editor asked if I’d be interested in reviewing an advanced copy of Phil Gordon’s new book, Phil Gordon’s Little Gold Book (PGLGB), I couldn’t resist. Six years after his Little Green Book was published, I was anxious to see if Gordon had kept up with the evolution of the game. “I’m ancient in the poker world,” Gordon admits in the book, “The kids are now dominating.”
Indeed, Gordon is a relic when it comes to the poker world. Although he has results dating to 2000, Gordon burst onto the poker scene shortly after the poker boom by winning the World Poker Tour 2004 Bay 101 Shooting...
Good review artfully dodging the inevitable FullTilt management connection of Phil Gordon which I found very diplomatic
That said, my own copy of the Little Gold Book awaits me at home, since I pre-ordered it via CHAPTERS books in Canada a month ago. Phil Gordon's "Little Green Book" and "Little Blue Book" were so informative I decided to invest in the "Little Gold Book" sight unseen. Let us not forget Phil Gordon's "The Real Deal" (the black book ...) has the extremely entertaining WSOP story where the reader and Phil Gordon analyse critical points on route to a Main Event win. This story also includes Phil Helmuth as a central character. I re-read this story once year just for the laughs of PH in the story
The Ax rule is interesting which I feel was best told by Matt Matros in a magazine article a while back. Matt is a pro writer who's book "The Making of a Poker Player" is an excellently crafted chronicle of a player's rise in skill that also includes a wealth of practical information. Phil Gordon remains an excellent entertaining writer with content, albeit light IMHO.
I am looking forward to reading the "Little Gold Book" and considering the fact the green & blue books were ok ... you can bet blind and buy it
