Poker will get two hearings on Capitol Hill next week, first in the Senate Indian Affairs Committee on Thursday and then back for another go-around in the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade.
Poker Players Alliance Chairman Al D'Amato, a former Senator from New York, will testify before the Senate Indian Affairs Committee.
This will be the first Senate hearing regarding online poker since the recent start of a movement to license and regulate the activity. It will be the second hearing on poker in the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade in about three...
Nothing will happen until after the US election which means that the US politicians are voluntarily turning away hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue AND continuing the online Poker Prohibition started by the US DOJ. Meanwhile, France, never the model of efficiency, regulated online poker and is raking in such serious revenues from online gaming that it highlights the US political dithering a economic stupidity.
Even worse is that by this lack of leadership, US politicians are handing to France, on a solid gold platter, leadership in a multi-billion dollar industry needlessly. Cannes will host the World Series of Poker Europe for the next seven years and if the US indecision continues ... there is good reason to look forward to WSOPE to rival the WSOP in Las Vegas.
Do the US politicians even realize the long-term effect of US citizens being forced to leave the US to play online poker?
Take the regulations written by France which are excellent, tweak it to reflect additional security, make running bots a felony, but get the show on the road.
