Full Tilt Poker Deal

On Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, news broke that a signed deal had been reached to allow Groupe Bernard Tapie (GBT) to buy Full Tilt Poker (FTP) for $80 million. According to Reuters, the United States Department of Justice brokered a deal that saw FTP forfeit its assets to the U.S. government, which then sold the assets to the French investment firm.

The deal, which presumably needs to be approved by a two-thirds vote by FTP shareholders, also states that GBT will be responsible for paying back players outside the U.S., and the Department of Justice will pay back players in the U.S., who are...

Great news and the sale of all assets to the US government reselling it to Groupe Tapie is the cleanest way to ensure that all assets are accounted for and there is no skulduggery or money diverted without the DOJ . By taking charge of the distribution of monies to US players, the DOJ can get a clear picture of which evil US citizens are playing online poker (ha ha) and score points with the tax department just waiting to receive the HISTORIES of all the FullTilt players in order to issue tax notices.

The DOJ Poker Prohibition first drove US citizens out because they couldn't play online poker in the US. Now the DOJ will trigger a new exodus of online poker players ... these are players who may have a tax bill significantly larger than their current FullTilt balances owing.

I think that the importance of the DOJ buying the assets is to get full title to all of the historical information legally giving them full right to the information. Pretty smart if you think about it.

For FullTiltPoker players internationally, especially Black Card players like me (**grin**) expect the mother of all promotions and playing incentives when FullTiltPoker revs up again.

Wonder if this settlement model is going to be followed by AP/UB, with liquidation proceeds ending up in the DOJ's hands? Also wonder how long or cumbersome the process is going to be to get funds back from DOJ. Is the DOJ going to make everyone file for 'crime victim' compensation?
