Adelson Morally Opposes Internet Gambling; PPA Urges Players to Take Action

Sheldon Adelson

Just when it seemed like the push for Internet poker legislation was progressing nicely and all the concerned parties were getting on the same page, Las Vegas Sands chairman Sheldon Adelson has come out against legalizing online poker.

After once opposing Internet gambling, it appeared that all the major Las Vegas casino owners had come to realize that Americans want to play poker online and that their companies could benefit.

Now Adelson, the world's richest casino executive and a large Republican donor with influence on Capitol Hill, has indicated that he morally opposes online gambling...

The US DOJ must be uncorking the champagne now that they have a gambling mogul onside with them to enforce the Poker Prohibition. Adelson is taking a calculated risk here, underestimating the popularity of poker in gaming. Poker players *will* be pissed at this stance. That is a lot of people that not only move through his properties but talk to the cutting-edge crowd that decide which casino is hot, and which is not. The Venetian poker room is one of the best in Vegas, I go there when I hit Vegas, and they deserved better than to be shafted by their chairman over a non-issue of under-age gambling, which is guaranteed to be the focus of any state or federal licensing effort. Hopefully some clarification will come but a CEO of a company does not deep-six an entire group of his employees for a headline.

I wish that it didn't come down to politics to get something like online poker passed into law, but it looks like that is what it is coming down to. How can you oppose something that you do for a living. This guys is not better then Senator Bill Frist, that like to push his views on all the rest of us. This is not just about online poker, its also about our Freedoms or the freedom that we are suppose to have in this country. This is one powerful man, but I don't think he can stop the momentum that is out there to make online poker a reality. Times change and so does the way you do business. WE Have to get this guy on our side to keep the road blocks out of the way.

...and then there are those that may agree with Sheldon Adelson, about technology and inadequate safeguards.
