On Dec. 20, the Associated Press reported that Brent Beckley, cofounder of Absolute Poker, pleaded guilty to criminal charges, including conspiracy to commit bank fraud and wire fraud.
In the U.S. District Court in Manhattan, Beckley, 31, admitted that he knowingly broke the law when Absolute Poker arranged for banks in the United States to facilitate gambling funds, violating the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act from 2006 until April of this year.
"I knew that it was illegal to deceive the banks," Beckley told Magistrate Judge Ronald Ellis. According to the Black...

As the Poker Prohibition in the U.S. continues to gather steam, European nations are making absolute fortunes in tax revenue from online poker while (unfortunately) leaving the birthplace of modern poker, the U.S.A., in the dust. I am still amazed and shocked that the U.S. would become a country where poker professionals are driven out of the country to practice their profession.
The plea bargain is a good deal I guess. It could be worse and we can all be grateful the DOJ did not jail them for 20 years.
Nice to see the DOJ make so much money chasing down those evil poker players instead of organized crime and drug pushers, who are dangerous & require leaving comfortable offices
