In 2009, the exit of the Commissioner of the World Series of Poker put Jeffrey Pollack on our list as the fifth biggest headline maker of the year. Soon thereafter, he took on the role of executive chairman for Professional Bull Riders (PBR), but it seemed a relative certainty that we'd seem him return to the felt in good time.
Two years after his departure from the game, Pollack finds himself back on our list and surrounded by a cast that contains a few familiar characters from the poker's elite. During the course of 2010, Pollack was busy cofounding Federated Sports + Gaming with a big...
There is no way I would put the formation of the less-than-epic EPIC league ahead for Phil Hellmuth's performance but there you go. The exclusive list spotlighting the top 300 while treating everyone under 300th at part of the great unwashed is a calculated slap in the face for amateurs in general and for players close to 300th in particular.
A pro tour is all very nice but this "private club" atmosphere including a morals committee just does not ring true. One player owed a lot of money and gets tossed ... ok, granted. One of the founders is associated with the defunct UB and Absolute Poker scandal owing millions to poker players gets a pass without a statement.
Balanced reporting though with all the facts. A number of top poker pros are ignoring the Epic League, not a good sign, but the article points that out too (Nice!).
I would have put it at #10 (or @100 ha ha) but looking forward to the next one. I don't like the Epic League tournaments but liked this article.

""Criticism has been widespread, but it's still too early to tell whether the Epic Poker League has been (or will be a) a success. It's noteworthy, though, that the vast majority of the complaints have come from those on the outside, and their opinions should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt"".
What a totally ridiculous comment to make - the EPL may be a series that allows exclusive members to participate but the events are targeted to the wider public through the media - if thier opinions should be taken with a grain of salt then it shows what a self centred self serving piece of crap the EPL is.
