According to three separate Stipulation and Orders filed on Feb. 8, 2012, PokerStars, Absolute Poker, and Full Tilt Poker “shall have until March 19, 2012, to answer or otherwise respond to the Amended Complaint.”
The companies were originally supposed to respond to the amended Black Friday indictment by Nov. 30, but numerous extensions have been granted as warranted by certain developments. As the latest Stipulation and Order for Full Tilt Poker states:
“WHEREAS, Full Tilt is in settlement discussions with the United States and has requested additional time to answer or otherwise respond...
Request for more time being granted is a good sign that at least the process is being worked on. The DOJ of course is keen to have the FTP deal do through because it will make a lot of money, which appears to be the objective of the unusual concentration of resources against online poker.
Organized crime, violent crime, and other activities that break real laws (as opposed to the pretzel-bending of gambling regulations) involve hard work, require leaving a warm office, and you have to associate with real criminals. Why do that when you can skin online poker sites from the comforts of a warm office?
The extensions are nice to hear about, but it seems is the bottom line is that the DOJ is very actively working to eliminate poker online without a clear mandate to do so, the objective being the cash they have seized.
