Online Poker Illegal in Australia?

I thought I'd try poker.com and upon registering was barred because I was Australian. What's up with this? I was really excited to try it out, and now I'm really disappointed. Every other poker site has been cool.. heaps of Aussies play poker - the last world champ was Australian. Is poker.com misinformed?.. or what?

Hello dan,

As Tony G and Oz Loki told us in another post, apparently poker.com is based in Australia and, as such, doesn't allow Australians to play there due to regulations by Parliament in Australia. You'll find their discussion under the "Poker News" tab in the forum section regarding that.

Some other European sites and the WPT online site do the same thing to Americans due to the vagarities of the laws in the United States. I apologize that you can't play real money games on Poker.com but maybe you could find another room you like among the others listed here!

Thanks for reading PokerNews!

dan, I know you already play at the best site going, Pokerchamps but we both miss out on Poker.com and the fantastic Pokernews freebies. It seems local Aussie legislation currently stops local Aussie players from playing on an online site that is based in Australia.

I guess we can't expect too much from Little Johnny here, when they don't even have a proper Poker game in the Canberra Casino. Maybe we should set up a tent outside Parliament house and start a home game. It could be the Poker Players Embassy.

thanks guys.
i don't know which topic it is in the poker news forum though, earl.
i tried searching but couldn't find it.

this law is ridiculous. another case of the government wanting to take my destiny into its own hands. the tent idea sounds excellent. count me in.
