Biography

Bon 'John' Phan aka 'The Razor' is a member of the Top50 club of the most winningest poker players in history which means he must have at least a couple of millions in his tournament account as well as a few titles. And he does. His lifetime winnings exceed $5 million and his trophy collection includes 2 WSOP bracelets and 1 WPT title. His best live performance by far was the $9,500 No-Limit Hold'em - Championship event at the 2008 WPT Legends of Poker in Los Angeles. Not only did then Phan scored his only WPT win, but he also collected his biggest-ever cash prize of over $1 million.

However, Phan's success did not come in an instant. He entered his first big tournament back in 1998, but it wasn't until 2004 that Phan scored his first six-figure payout of $160,000 in $500 Limit Hold'em event at The Fifth Annual Jack Binion World Poker Open in Tunica. Although he recorded a number of 1st place finishes during that 6-year period, none of them brought Phan a decent monetary reward. But all changed after the big win and from then on John Phan started winning big money on the regular basis.

As of 2011 'The Razor' had a total of 18 live tournament wins, made it to more than 60 final tables in various tournaments, scored 108 cashes 16 of which came in World Series of Poker events and 11 in World Poker Tour tournaments. Phan made his first WSOP final table in 2005 when he finished 4th in the $5,000 Seven-card stud event and collected $72,000. He went on playing WPT and WSOP events and scored two World Series runner-up finishes in 2006 and 2007. First he lost the battle for the bracelet to Jon Friedberg in a $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em event and then a year latter he fell to Francois Safieddine in a $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em tournament.

However, it all paid off during the next WSOP in 2008 when Phan scored two 1st place finishes along with two shiny bracelets. At first he won the $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em event beating Johnny Neckar and then just a week later he came out victorious in the $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw tournament defeating Shunjiro Uchida. John Phan cashed a total of $608,500 at the 2008 WSOP.

It was the same (and by far the most successful in his carrier) year that Phan won the biggest amount of cash in a live tournament. Just two months after his WSOP success 'The Razor' outplayed the field of 373 players at the $9,500 No-Limit Hold'em - Championship Event, 2008 WPT Legends of Poker beating Amit Makhija in the final play and collecting more than $1 million along with the WPT title.

Phan is also a member of the Full Tilt Poker team pro and represents the site in various live poker tournaments. He can be found playing his online poker only on Full Tilt.
